U2 Headlining Glastonbury...

here but
bbc said:
They have been performing on a custom-built giant "claw" stage, but will swap that for Glastonbury's main Pyramid Stage on the festival's first night.

They will then travel to the US to resume their tour in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the following evening.

U2 promoter John Giddings said on Twitter: "It is true, U2 headline the Fri night @ Glastonbury. They fly back for the weekend in the middle of their US tour."

CUNTS!

Well, I'm taking this year off, and even though I haven't watched a headliner since Radiohead in 2003, and always say that the headliners don't matter and are always shite and the good stuff is elsewhere etc. all I have to say is blurgh.

*shrugs*

so you know 1 act you can't be arsed to see... so what? they had fucking east 17 last year... it was still an awesome festival... i really don't get the sacred treatment some people put on the glasto lineup...

bono's coming!

Tbf the environmental cost of flying back and forth over the Atlantic is probably not as much as the ridiculous ammount of trucks driving their show round the world!

Paul McGuinness, the band's manager said "There's about 200 trucks. Each [of the three stages require] 37 trucks. And then the universal production is another 50-odd trucks, and there are merchandise trucks and catering trucks."

I suppose they'd need a truck soley for bono's ego too.

the thing is most people who moan dont even go to the festival...

they come out with " glad i never bought a ticket now "

surely they'll be flying all their equipment back and forth over the atlantic too?

"International touring band has large carbon footprint shocker"

It's not that, fwiw a mate used to tour with them and they'd leapfrog entire stages plus all the kit around the US on their tours. The economics of such a massive touring extravaganza probably determine that that's the only way it can be done.

But that doesn't mean that Glastonbury should be supporting and promoting them whilst flying banners for Greenpeace and Water Aid.

This decade's Glasto festies have been dominated by had all kinds of mainstream dadrock headliners: Springsteen, Neil Young, Blur, Kings Of Leon, Coldplay, The Killers, The Who, McCartney, Franz Ferdinand, Oasis......etc etc...zzzzzzz

U2 were only a matter of time. They may as well have Classic Rock Magazine sponsor the stage and be done with it.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha all the Glasto snobs will be crying their eyes out as they wave their eco lighters to "With or Without You".

Yeah very, very un-commericial.

Didn't see any of the mainstage head liners in either of the last two years. i'm sure people will cope somehow.

I look at the BBC's coverage these days and try and estimate what percentage of the total on the site are watching the mainstage Sat night headliners - and I can't get above 20-25% or so. It's not actually a big deal, is it?

I suspect that the number of people watching a given headliner will be roughly similar to the number of people wanting to watch them.

That's how it usually works. :)
