seems like a lot of nobodies, with the sort of names that give away their amateurishness before you even hear them.

One of these days I'm going to haul your arse into a hippy den of equality and feed you to the karma kids.

:p

what you always forget about me is that i spent most of the fucking 80s in just that place
which is why i feel qualified to sneer ;)

Call me childish but I can't shake the idea that it would be great fun to bring a few stinkbombs along to something like this and accidentally drop them and tread on them at 3 am. I'm not advocating anybody be silly enough to do that. This post is for educational purposes only.

Hmm, kinda tempted by this although maybe not the "5 rhythms" dance lessons. Then again, big night on Saturday too ...

*strokes chin*

Good to see so much interest in the event.

I may not be there now any.. some other groovy disco night's happening elsewhere.. Kylie cover versions! :) :)
Are these Polish cover versions by any chance? :D

My mate runs the creche there, and she says it's really brilliant...

For the kids, I'm sure that's true ... :)

As far as those over 12 are concerned though, Synergy has a bit of an (ahem) reputation around here ;)

And as you know I'm no hippy-hater .... ;)

Its true..

"With wailing, growling solos and light hearted takes on various pop classics (Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" being a personal favourite), Patrick and Eugene seem to be leading us hand in hand into a genre of music that knows no boundaries. So long as you have an open mind and a spring in your step, you will most certainly be overwhelmed by the cheerful originality that radiates from this album. I enjoyed it so much I bought another 3."

I know a few of the people involved with the childcare and classes there ane they really benefit from the place too. That doesn't mean that they don't have the occasional doubt about the management's suitability or music mind.

Good on Synergy for letting some strong characters contribute and provide a valuable place for mothers and their children though. Can't say fairer thatn that, although I wish they sort out a more diverse music policy and help themselves escape from promoting the same events (and services) to the same group of people. There's potentially a good community resource there, but it all seems a little too linked to their parties and the contributions of a few committed helpers for comfort.

DJ Rubbish? Are you sure?

yup I actually know him :D

I got given a free campaign stall last year at a Synergy event & the music really was crap - but it did all look v pretty :o However id never pay to get in.

Fair enough but this is something I'm sure you could level at loads of parties.

True. But not many of them run a community centre or have aims to reach out to the wider community. Even some of the people involved have more than the occasionally moan - let's just say they want more UK hip hop and some heavier beats....

To be fair, there's quite a bit of variation at the SE1 nights. I've heard hip-hop, drum & bass, folk music and all sorts of other stuff too...

Yeah.. agreed... I wonder how many of the 'South London community' go to drum and bass nights..

Havin' an 80s disco night would probably be more inclusive.. :)

You haven't been to the Synergy Centre or the nearby estates have you Hollis?

Let's just say that you don't often hear disco tunes coming from the local flats or pubs. Think more Silver Buckle than Yeats Wine Lodge...

And that's why I'm thinking of going.. I've attended a Synergy party at the SE1 and posted up about it.

I doubt whether those 'local estates' are so unique.. I'm sure they'd enjoy an outreach night of early-80s disco.
