...but when I moved to Brixton in 1981 there were two wheeled gigs with high stepping ponies that were stabled under the railway arches and occasional races down the Loughborough Road between the Traveller lads....that's something that's gone, all the Traveller's ponies.

Actually, ironically - where he lives now - just off the Old Kent Road, by Burgess Park - there are some travellers' ponies - they come every year for a period of time. You often see all the local kids feeding them carrots. There was just one there when I went earlier this week, but sometimes there's more.
