Unsurprising that pubs like this close really - they take in virtually no cash. I talked to somebody who'd bought (and rennovated) an old pub near Victoria recently. Before it was rennovated it was turning over £3k per week - so you'd guess that after paying for just the cost of the beer and wages you'd be lucky to make any profit at all let alone enough to cover the mortgage on a site worth millions. I'd be surprised if a little pub like the Two Woodcocks even took in that.
The choice really is whether the pubs get rennovated into something that's viable or they get turned into flats.
Maybe we should have a mini pub crawl in the new year round all the more traditional pubs left in and around Brixton?
