Two dead in NI shooting

Duffy should be released. Pure violation of human rights by the Brits yet again!

Republicans going on about human rights abuses is like a shoplifter shouting stop thief.

I have often wondered about the level of hypocrisy found in NI/Ireland, its worse then any other place Ive been.

I remember SF/IRA members stripping, chaining and publically tarring and feathering young women some teenagers, then they used to go on about RUC brutality, and with a straight face.

When did Sinn Fein ever complain about civil rights abuses in the south ? The fact homosexuality was illegal up until 96, contraception was illegal, divorce illegal, young women being detained in Magdaline homes for giving birth, the last one only shut in 96 etc, etc.

Whether you like it or not, even those who breach the rights of others retain rights of their own.

The place is built on hundreds of years of political manipulation, sectarianism and the politics of fear, what else do you expect?

1) There's no such thing as "SF/IRA", they're two separate organisations.
2) It's quite possible that at least some of those members of either Sinn Fein or the Provisional IRA would have had experience of internment, and it's accompanying brutalities. Being brutalised is likely to make the victim brutal in turn.

Was it part of their mandate to do so, or would those issues have been (as they were) better left with organisations concerned only with civil rights?

Well Sinn Fein were/are a political party who claimed to be motivated by civil rights for catholics but only in the north it appears.

As for the other points its alot more complex then history, Ireland north and south is a very morally ambivilent and even dark place, hence no banking regulations etc, kids being abused while the state turned a blind but locked up sinners in institutions etc, alot of it comes from religion.

Sinn Fein/IRA have a cross over membership, hence the hypocrisy is done by individuals in that org which is basically one coin two sides.
