Turnmills, so great nobody mentioned its shut

GD4789695@Berghain-club-interio-5630.jpg

Went to Tresnor and above, the Berghain last night, both in Berlin, ldn pales in comparison.

I've been to both of those two and I'd agree with you. How was it getting in to Berghain? We had to queue for ages in the snow last time I was there.
I almost gave up on Tresor until I went downstairs to the little cage room where the techno was too much for me after half an hour and I had to leave :D (It was brilliant - I just went a bit loopy :o)

Berghain was shit. Queued for hours and it was full of very clean-cut looking kids. One room had a single DJ on all night, with apparently just one breakbeat tune (do I sound old? :D), and the other rooms were poppy and rubbish. Someone did give me a free wrap of speed though, so all was not entirely lost.

Oh yeah, the OP... never went to Turnmills.

Certainly not full of clean cut kids when I went there. Christ! :D

Downstairs at Tresor is where it's at for sure.

Turnmills wasn't the best club in London, but it pisses all over Matter IMO, anyone been ? Its just so obviously corporate, I am surprised the people behind Fabric are behind it, I don't get that corporate feeling when I am in there.

I still miss the End, and no the Den as its new reopened name, you won't get me back there.

On the other hand, I'd not been there for years, not really into paying that much to get into places where you queue to get in, buy overpriced drinks & there are cunts for bouncers. Ah well.

really? i found the bouncers sound. got caught on the dancefloor getting a pill out my baggie, i throw baggie on floor, he shines his tourch, picks it up, sees there are only a few in there and im not a dealer and hands it back to me, wanders off

was a member so used to get straight in. if im going to a busy club i'll always buy a ticket beforehand, save faffing about outside.

I'm talking generally about clubbing really.

Turnmills closed - shocked.

I loved that place, they always managed to keep it fresh by changing the decor regulary, and new parts and hidden rooms seem to pop out of knowhere.

Top nights enjoyed there were Trade, Dancekult and of course the Eurobeat 2000 boxing day specials. Tons of great memories.

Yeah I remember that.

We used to get back and try and dissect the night, and someone would describe some new bit they claimed they'd found. Except we were all so spannered we could never work out what the reality was.

Once, a mate - who we were there with - claimed he'd found a bit with a moon surface you could climb on, and in the middle there was hole where you could look down on other bits of the club.

To this day, none of us have any idea whether that ever existed.

I only went to Turnmills in the mid 2000's and thought it was a bit gash, mind you with Brandon Block and Boy George it would be. I've never liked clubs like Fabric et al that are just too big.

The End was a good venue, it's reopened right??? What's different about it now compared to the old End???

Hot summer night. Turnmills 3am. No queue. Straight in, two hours of early morning dancing and then a cab home at dawn. :):D

I thought Trade didnt start till 4 :confused

my memory may be hazy

to begin with we went to Troll at the soundshaft on Saturday night, then on to Trade

but by the mid 90s i'd go to bed on saturday night, get up at about 7 on sunday morning, cycle to Trade, neck a pill and then cycle home about midday

E2K and, yes I don't care what you say, Gallery, were some of the best clubbing nights I've had out in London.

Used to go to Soundshaft for Drumclub...also remember the first 2 nights of Megatripolis at Heaven, when they opened up SS into Heaven and you could wander between the two nights...ahh, student days, early progressive house (La Luna period), good pills...them were the days etc etc

It's now called the den (do you see what they did there?).

one thing they are quite correct about is that none of the regulars will be back. too many good memories.

I went to them (and some of the ones at the Marquee Club). They were some of the first dance clubs I went to...ahh, unemployed days, early trance (Nik Sequenci ), good acid.. them were the days :D

Aaaah the other straight person! :p

add me and a a little mob of about 8 - 14 others to that list depending on who was out that night / day anytime between 91 -93 - on to Villa Stefano for the original DTPM / possibly Full Circle , and back to the hellpit that was FF on rare occasions ....some amazing and fucked up times

anyone remember Space that preceded Trade / was the "straight Trade " on Fridays ? very naughty, v amazing, big black lads with no tops on smoking rocks, Smoking Jo / Laurence Nelson playing piano screamers , jumpers for goalposts ......deranged... ended very badly after a couple of months unfortunately ....

Loads of bald men dancing to a really terrible tune. Glad it's gone.

lol - always thought that was a prticularly terrible last picture of Trade - the tune playing is actually brilliant ( Marmion - Shonenburg ) but pete Wardman has sped it up + 8 , it was already 140 bpm, and on the now v average Sound system = terrible .

Marmion on the orignal Trade system was mental .

This already has planning permission

i was a trade regular and im straight :). i spent many many nights/days there and then off to FF on the sunday night

aaah FF, my favourite london club, had some cracknig nights/early mornings there.

Turnmills must have been the only club venue that had been visited by Karl Marx.

i think he was more of a Trade man than FF tho

The only time I went to Turnmills was to Space. Don't remember much about the night, apart from the biggest street brawl I've ever seen outside.

e2a: actually, I do remember getting whacked on the forearm, accidentally, by a bugle that someone had smuggled in, and having a slash next to Julian Lennon.
