Tube out again from Wednesday night for 24 hours.

What an interesting morning.

I left home a bit early, assuming that the buses would be overcrowded and/or messed up with the added load of taking people that would normally travel on the tube.

The buses were a lot quieter than normal, as was the bit outside Brixton Tube far quieter than normal. Apart from a few tube guys in hi-viz by the closed gates, it might as well have been 3am on a sunday morning.

Ended up getting to work early. Bummer.

a load of Victoria line refugees on the train this morning, they had all piled on at Walthamstow, so by the time it got to Clapton, it was packed, I got on, because I always go to the end of the platform - but loads were left on the platform, waiting for the next train 18 minutes later, which would also have been packed

I had a lovely ride in to Oxford Circus on my new bike thanks to the victoria line closure.

I don't support either their reasons or their methods, but I'd like to thank the RMT for this journey. Hopefully, heading home will be as fun.

333 from Brixton Hill - Stockwell ... full of Primary School kids on a day out...

Northern Line ... full of about 5 different primary schools on day outs!!

AAaaaarghhhhhh!!! Hell! :(

Same! Took the 133. Got to oval and loads of the little buggers were trouping down the escalators.

Just got to work. Cheers Bob! First day my boss is actually in the office and I make it at 11am. Filthy looks all round.

27 buses went by on Brixton Road before one stopped to let passengers on.

That was about 8.15am I got on a 59 at 9.10ish

Makes me very glad I decided to get the 137 to Clapham Common and an 88 from there. Managed to get a seat on each bus and was only about 15 mins late to work.

I forgot about the strike this morning and had to go from Vauxhall to Finsbury Park for a dentists appointment. Nightmare! I got a train to Waterloo then the Northern Line. I forgot that the Piccadilly goes to Finsbury Park and was going to try and get the overland, but couldn't remember which station it goes from, but then the train pulled into Leicester Square and I remembered. Was one minute early. Phew!

From next week I'm walking or cycling to work anyway - can't stand trying to get on the Vic line at Green Park during rush hour anymore. :)

Errr, they have explained why they're going on strike. I just checked the RMT website and there's a statement there. You're clearly too dim/lazy/stupid/incompetent/moronic* to find it, so here it is for you: http://www.rmt.org.uk/Templates/Internal.asp?NodeID=122564

Well they haven't explained to my satisfaction.

Is it unreasonable to expect a driver to be capable of working out which side of the train the platform is on? Is it reasonable to expect expensive equipment to be fitted to trains that are about to be retired? Who knows without seeing all the details.

I have no reason to believe the RMT are being reasonable, or that this strike is really anything to do with their concerns about "passenger safety", the phrase they throw in to their strike statements as a matter of course.

As I've said on here before, there's no reason for anyone to particularly believe what either side says during these disputes. Both have their own selfish interests at heart.

The only way to find out would perhaps be for the minutes of negotiation meetings to be published. The RMT don't seem to be interested in doing anything like this, and (apparently fairly senior) RMT members on these boards have told me they have no interest in trying to put their side across to the travelling public.

So they can't complain when people like AJdown are suspicious of what's actually going on behind the scenes. It's not even necessarily a "right-wing" position. I would have thought that many lefties would be sympathetic to the idea that any power you have should be wielded fairly rather than selfishly. I don't see why that shouldn't be expected of London Underground RMT members, who undoubtedly wield a great deal of power on account of their particular circumstances.

They might not have explained "to your satisfaction" why they're going on strike, but they have offered a statement on their position, and my post was in response to ajd's assertion that they hadn't. It was also in response to his idiotic assertion that "They probably realised they're running out of things to get a day off over, so they made up something whilst the weather's nice before it's too late". He makes a habit of saying daft things like that just to get a reaction from what he percieves as "dyed-in-the-wool lefties" and if you're saying he doesn't then you obviously haven't come across his whitterings much on this board.

I guess I'm just saying it's understandable where the underlying disgruntlement comes from, and I don't think it's unreasonable either. Whether or not ajd's witterings, the general nature of which I'm familiar with, are a very eloquent expression of it.

So you stood for an hour watching full buses go by every two minutes, and you didn't think to start walking.

You're a lot more patient than me.

Well good luck. Hope you find another quicksharp.

Might I just say you are being very restrained not spending all your time on here.

I should point out that I mean I'm negotiating what sort of free pushbike and bike servicing expenses I'll be getting as a mod.

NOT negotions for me to BE the company bike...

You're just not trying hard enough on the post front.

So... Anyone ever actually see a door open on the wrong side of the platform, or is this just another cynical attempt to get the public on side?
