Tron 2

Tron was crap but I love it. Did you know that there is less than 15 minutes of actual computer animation in the whole film?

That's all well and good, but it looks like it's not actually going to have a plot. :hmm: Has potential, but it will probably be a dull-as-fuck CGI fest with moments of awesome animated-brilliance that won't justify its existence.
I hope for better though!

yeah it will probably be crap. I don't usually get excited by film trailers of CGI stuff but those bikes & the scenery just look so cool. If the film is an hour & a half of just people riding lght bikes around to a daft punk soundtrack I'll be happy.

Since its probably mostly going to be set inside a computer mainframe or whatever then i think we can excuse the amount of CGI in this case.

Dunno. I love the first film, but this seems just rubbish. It just doesn't look right, dispite the light cycles- the great thing about the visuals in Tron is how it looks very distinctive, due to Syd Mead's designs (I think he isn't on board), the glowing hard edges on large objects and the high-contrast black and white film with rotoscoped glow and colour added in production. Without all that, this looks just another run off the mill CGI flick, and the ones responsible for the Tron 2.0 videogame did a much better job of capturing the essence of the visuals.

However, while I hate the dramatic orchestral shite they've added as soundtrack to the trailer, Daft Punk is the only band that can pull the same awesomeness of Wendy Carlos, and perhaps the thing to look forward to. Now, instead of Journey for the cack-rock track, will they add the Killers? :D

I hope it still has Moses.

1. Disney made the original version, so all the comments about 'Going to Disney' etc...they own the name FFS
2. The CGI looks lovely and abstract, like the original, so it gets my vote
3. TRON as a film is a bit pants, quite frankly - it's real vision was in the concept and execution of the CGI. Plus it had a very young Bruce Boxleitner in it...

tron was visually stunning back in the day.
but c'mon, let's be honest - it's a fuckin' crap film.
what the fuck was it about?
all i can remember is the bike scene...

and i hate LOST.
and all the actors and writers in it...
Sigh, I can see that I'm going to have to put you on the game grid.

Tron was one of my favourite films for ages.

It spoke out against making creative programming beuracratic, subject to the whims of the suits and corporate thieves and of mankind become slaves to the machines they originally created.

Unfortunately its message has been largely ignored in the real world and corporations full of suits are now mainly in control of the games industry.

Or was it just about pew pew and vroom vroom?

Tron rocked! I still like it now :). I think because it's so old, you almost forget the (now)substandard graphics ....

I cant let that pass - The look of original Tron beats ANY CGI film ever made. For me, Tron is the best looking sci-fi film ever made. Dune a close second (Stings armour is the shit!). Probably Blade Runner after that... ExistenZ is up there too. The seceret to them all is a lack of CGI, but great creativity. As for the CGI added to Star Wars etc.- its made the old films verge on unwatchable..

Tron is flawed - The story line wasnt great ...good concept, but poor narrative.

If only more film makers were more creative in the way they achieve their special effects, rather than just passing it over the same old bunch of programmers.

Imagine if they remade Dark Crystal

Yeah I suppose i shouldn't really moan about Disney / Pixar doing it, I'm just worried...
IIRC Disney did the first one too, so dont worry too much!

Hmmm...most of the good CGi studios use their own proprietary 'ware, so it's not the 'same old bunch of programmers'. Pixar are famous for introducing at least 1 major innovation in CGI for their films...

Kinda agree with you on the effects comment - I don't know if you've seen my thread over in games about abstract vs. realism in CGI...

Does look nice and yay Bruce is back (looking old enough to play future John Sheridan without the need for make up!)!

Daft Junk, Bruce Boxleitter, Jeff Bridges, great effects. I'm official nerdtastically excited by it....

I saw Tron when it came out and haven't seen it since. Some nice eye candy for its time as far as I remember, but otherwise formulaic dross.

Oh c'mon, when are we going to stop falling for this sort of guff.

30 mins of vaugely interesting back story/set up, followed by an hour or so of relentless 3d cgi wrapped around an arse weak 'story'

It'll be shit & you all know it.
:D

I hope we don't have 30 mins of plot. That's way too much plot taking up valuable time in which they could be cramming in moar CGI. Give us MOAR!!!
