There was one episode of Come Dine With Me where this old woman put so much sherry in the trifle that everyone was totally wankered half way through eating it.

apparently that's why my mental granny always loved making trifles.

my uncle would tell tales of her slumped sozzled behind the mangler. :D :D

Wrong.

Zabaglione is a 'custard' type mixture using egg yolkes cooked over a bowl of boiling water not simply cream and marscapone mixed together. :p
 
back to the tiramisu/booze issue - i e-mailed an italian colleague of mine who does loads of cooking and homebaking and stuff to ask if tiramisu has alcohol in. his reply is below

It should have some liquor but often they put only flavouring

*conclusive* proof.
 
Loads of booze in it and real custard and fluffy cream and chocolate dust and yum yum yum
