Tree Killing

So I have a small urban garden in Camden and unfortunately it has a tree in it. It is far too big for the garden and blocks out all the sun. I would like to get rid of it but unfortunately I have heard that many trees in Camden are covered by Tree Protection Orders, and jealous people who do not have a garden complain about a tree being removed (even if it's not theirs!!). Also, a fine of £20,000 and requirement to plant a new one is a risk if you do it against the law. However, I've heard that if the tree is diseased then one has grounds to remove it. So I'm wondering - if I find out that the tree is protected is there a way that I can disease the tree in order to get around the order? Or any other crafty method? Thanks!

I'll be down Camden way later tonight if you need any help to get that tree ;)
