Trains on Boxing Day

wiskey said:
boxing day is normally a sunday service - actually i'm not sure about that

did you know the uk hasnt run a service on xmas day since 1962! wheras most other european countries run a near normal service. disgraceful. think of all those drunk people getting their cars to drive miles.

Most trains dont run on Boxing Day. Those that do so run a limited service that starts later than a normal Sunday or Bank Holiday and finishes earlier. From memory last year services run from Victoria to Gatwick Airport and Fenchurch Street to Shoeburyness. Im sure there were a few other services as wll.

There is a pile of major engineering work on over Christmas - its often trhe only chance to put in big junction layouts (which block say 4 tracks) or major bridges.I know that Bham New St is having big trackrelaying this Xmas - (as it did last year) - so thats put the kybosh on that !

Usually - Boxing day trains are only

Gatwick Express
Thameslink London to Bedford (for Luton Airport)
Some local services in South London (like Vic - Orpington)
Eurostar
Heathrow Express
Limited service on the tube.

Mon - Tues will be a Sat service - but with a later start up - where not affected by engineering works.

Most of the material and timetables for Boxing day and Monday onwards should be available next week.
