Tour de France - road closures Friday

Minnie_the_Minx

someinenhhanding menbag and me ah bollox
Transport disrupted on Friday and the race isn't even on 'til Saturday

As if we haven't got enough disruption with security scares

Just got an email with full details of the road closures, bus routes diverted, train etc.

What a pain in the arse

at least you know in advance.

what else are they supposed to do? the only reason they're closing them on friday is because it's an early start in london on the saturday. as soon as the riders have gone past, the roads will open again.

So, what's the SW1 score then? Is St James Park open? :(

It looks like it, but I think (but am not sure, that you'll only be able to walk on one side of Vic Street and there will be certain crossing points).

Going home now but if you PM your email address, I'll forward the details I've got later on

One of the most prestigious sporting events in the world does London and it's citizens the massive honour of starting here and people just moan.

This is a working city.

Not a fucking sports venue.

Miserable fucker.. it's not even worth arguing the toss with killjoys like you. Really, how much does it inconvenience people? A 5 minute detour? 10 minutes in traffic? Big fucking deal.

I wouldn't mind if it was on Friday, at least the inconvenience would be rewarded by the sight of all those fit young men on bikes :p

There's lots of parades and stuff on the Friday, plenty of chance to perve!

In France and Italy, where roads are closed for all sorts of Tours, it's considered a massive honour to have them pass through. I'd love it if we, as a city, could be as passionate as them. Sadly I suspect it will raise as much of an inconvenienced tut, as it will passion.

Yes it is a working city - and the TdF stands to net this working city anywhere between 80-200 million quid in a weekend.

How do you like those fucking apples?

Erm - the prologue stage IS on Friday...http://www.tourdefrancelondon.com/tdf/en/event/opening-ceremony.asp

Lots of ace French and bike stuff going on in Hyde Park on Friday too.

Still, much better to have a whine and moan about stuff than actually not say anything or anything positive, eh?

And who get's this money?

Not me who has to go out of my way for some sodding cyclists.

pootle, Prologue is saturday, stage 1 is sunday. Friday evening is the team presentation in trafalgar sq.;)

Is it? D'oh! But the cyclists will be going around town on friday night won't they?

AND there's going to be other top bike action in Hyde Park like a BMX flatland display...I iz well looking forward to it. Here's hoping the weather stays dry!

Oh how inconvenient. /2Others are having fun and it's going to cost me 5 minutes"

Your life sounds so fucking joyless.

London businesses - hotels, restaurants, cabbys, ice cream men, folk selling London tat and anyone else who'd benefit from an extra 3 million people coming into town to see a once in a lifetime event.

As you're so concerned about this 'working city' I thought that might make you happy - but I suspect it won't and you're just a dull, killjoy nimby who likes moaning.
