Touch typing-can you do it?

My parents got sick to death of me being drunk and unemployed after coming home from my international drag queening, so kicked me off to Pitmans on a Jobcenter-type-funded secretarial course :)

Home keys all they way there. Took about a week of persistent effort to basically get it. And that was about the fifth time of trying.

Took about another year to get the numbers :D And I still struggle with my laptop number keys - they're not where they should be, ha. But my old split-keypad ergonomic wireless keyboard is the bestest keyboard ever :D

G'luck, cyberfairy :D

Typing fast is part of my main blag to make me employable.

Yossarias *allegedly* has a ridiculously fast typing speed, can't remember what though.

Would I need to look at keyboard while typing I think Dyslex would really go mad.
It is not having to look at it that makes for me writing on a keyboard less difficult than handwriting.

It is very easy to learn (learned it as a little child). I think most people create their own difficulties because they have no patience for starting slow.
See it like practcing an instrument. If you have a difficult passage you start to play it slow and gradually get it in your fingers at the right tempo.

salaam.

touch typing is the bane of my life. Did a course got bored. tried mavis beacon and got bored. I have to learn to touch type goddamit even if its the last thing i do.

I learned a bit of it using this:

http://www.typeonline.co.uk/lesson1.html

which isn't bad, but after a week or so I kind of forgot for a while and went back to two fingers.

When I picked it back up I was very happy to discover that after mere minutes I was back to where I'd left off, it does stay in the memory!

I left it again and now I'm back to two fingers. :(

according to ed's link about I'm around 38 words per min

no idea if thats good or not mind :o

retyped with no backspacing:

Self taught for a year or so 'cos I was working in Behium and being fiven work in Portugese - so it was worth doing :) . Later imprved matters with Mavis Beacon teaches typing but that's so fucking furstating I gave up. I can only really do the mian letters - occasionally I get a number right. I make loads of mistakes and can only type between 40 and 50 wpm - abou the same as when I sued 3 fingers.

(I wanted to say 40-60 and 2 fingers and that's Belgium).

Doing a couple of hours a day in twenty minutes bursts...
Try doing it for an hour each time, slowly, and concentrating properly (not thinking about chasing kitty/decorating garden etc) ;)
