Tottenham's League status

RenegadeDog said:
Is it or is it not true that at the start of the season all the Spurs fans were being totally smug about West Ham, the 'fact' that we'd go straight back down, finish bottom etc,
I've never suggested that or heard any of my fellow Tottenham Hotspurs supporters mention it...... So no its not true that "ALL" "the Spurs fans were being totally smug about West Ham" is it.

RenegadeDog said:
and is it not also true that we are really not that far behind you lot at the moment?

That might be true but in all honestly I like most of the Spurs fans I know dont give a shit where you are or how you are doing

I dislike Manchester United the rest I can take or leave...the Hammers are a team I occationally go with my mates to watch (either their ground or the pub).

I'm not having your attitude that you can only be a blind regionalist to be into football. I just dont function like that.

Where's the problem?

:) To ease your farrowed brow on this matter...let me inform you that The Arsenal are my team... only hate Manchester united.

Phew I've never repeated myself so much! :)

You've wrongly assumed either Im "A blind regionalist" or that I think you have to be to be into football iROBOT. What I have enjoyed was shifting the focus of this blatent trolling thread by "mod". that and your posts in which youre desperatly trying to prove yourself "above" me which I do find amusing I must admit.

Are you:

A. A Very middle class mother with a young family which aren't used to hearing bad language?

B. One of the aboves children

C. Both?

Mate, you're being trolled. Just call him a wanker and be done with it. Spurs schmurs, they're having a good season, which is to be expected based on what they've spent and how long they've gone without one.

so where's this feeling that the spuds big themselves up come from? i agree that they are regarded as a 'big club', but if this is based on trophies won then it is not true. because they have been in the top flight for so long, this probably qualifies them rather than the amount of trophies they have won. but then they were successful, particularly in the nicholson era so perhaps it's fair.... a historically big club.

of course the spuds were going to whinge about their mediocrity, any fan wants their team to be up there. i think it was more a media thing that created the 'unacceptable for a club of such stature' that has surrounded the club, as they have been through some glamorous times with villa / ardiles / lineker / gascoigne with a few cup finals but at the same time never winning as much as they should.

What like by using offensive language and having a go at me for liking more then one team and me standing up for sain language and being more objective....whatever rocks your world.

Edit...forgot the points about my spelling....yeh really proving something there

well put.... but

Newcastle fans spring to mind, they've done nothing for 50 years but hey still think they're a "big" club!!! West Ham have done bugger all and and again think they're somewhat "big", Man Citeh, Leeds the list goes on.

Spurs have a long history, we've been around a long, long time in the top flight, we've won lots of cups and done a few things first (FA double/ winners in Europe) we havent won the league many times though.

This quote sums up THFC and football for me:

'The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It's nothing of the kind. The game is about glory. It's about doing things in style, with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom.' - Danny Blanchflower

I'll second that and I'm not a THFC fan but being an old git I can remember them in the 'glory era' of Blachflower, Greaves, et al and they've ALWAYS tried to play 'football' - some times the players they've got haven't been up to the skill for way the club wanted to play the game but that has always been the game plan IMHO. I remeber Manure getting relegated in the 70's and they went down kicking anything that moved as did Leeds ten years later.

Tottenham went down for one season but they went down always trying to football their way out of it - as did the Hammers also, I can only ever remeber WHU teams that played football.

I'm sure someone will come back saying what about Mackay at THFC or Billy Bonds at WHU - yes they have had there 'hard men' - you have to have a ball winner someshere (that's what's wrong with the Arse this season - they haven't got one) but the basic philosophy of both THFC & WHU has been to play football.

Well said Bigbry.

Spurs have:

1) Had some of the greatest players in British football history: Greavesie, Blanchflower, Mackay, Hoddle, Jennings, Ardiles, Gazza, Lineker etc etc.
2) Have almost always been in the top flight.
3) Won lots of cups- FA Cup eight times (I think), UEFA, Cup Winners and we were the first team in the 20th century to win the double. We were also the first non-league team to win the FA Cup, granted it was 1901.
4) We always win the cup when the year ends in one. Fact.

We have a rich history and a worldwide reputation, not as successful as Liverpool or Man U but we piss on the likes of Chelsea. We are a big team, and anyone who says we're not are very much mistaken.

And we're undergoing a renaissance now - yessssss.
