They could still get something from this. Turn of luck with the missed pen and Juve tiring a bit by the end of that half.

I was most impressed with Spurs reaction after going 2-0 down. They bossed the last 20 minutes of the half and were a constant threat.

I was just thinking Jenas is one of the better ones tbh, or did you mean the actual commentator?

Not to take away anything from Spurs' performance, but I was surprised by some of the tactical choices Juve made - dropping so deep in the first half, for instance, or not having Douglas Costa harassing Aurier after the latter got a yellow.

...and did I see Hugain get a yellow? Does that mean he misses the 2nd leg?

Really proud of that performance tonight.

Spurs of Old would have folded like a cheap suitcase at 0-2 after 9 mins. Instead we steadied ourselves and took the game to them, thoroughly deserving to have won the game imo.

I was surprised too with Juve’s tactics. Let us right back in it and then looked petrified for most of the rest of the tie.

No room now for complacency though. It’s only half time etc etc etc...but I/we/they can savour tonight and marvel at the spirit and composure displayed by Spurs.....

was it definitely 100% tactics to sit back? i felt like they just couldnt get out of the press, even if they wanted to. They didnt even break (barely). Id like to think they just got squeezed hard

Who's to say - but the fact that they stood higher in the 2nd half makes me think Allegri realised something wasn't working. Of course it could have been that the Juve players simply didn't follow the game-plan.

the fact they remained pressed in the 2nd (well, it got a bit scrappy) made me hopeful that there was a good degree of the main dynamic being spurs suffocating them out. Really looking forward to the 2nd leg now, curious how that dynamic will be

I don't quite agree that they remained as pressed tbh, they pushed up from the start and had a lot more chances. With better finishing Juve could have won it. In fairness so could spurs.

Yes. They parked the bus after the second goal. After ten mins that is. Terrible tactics.

    if so, terrible indeed

i read this yesterday before the game - interesting article:
10 years later, match-fixing left Italy struggling
...about the state of the italian league post match fixing crisis of 2006 (not that i believe match fixing has gone away since). Suggests that the scandal devastated many teams, and the league in general, but Juve for reasons outlined came out the best of all of them, and are dominating what remains a decimated league.

Their ten match run with no goals scored against them was it? , whatever the stats, they've been untouchable in Italy for a while now, and probably got a bit arrogant - parking the bus might have worked if playing another still-broken Serie A team, and maybe they got cocky as Spurs looked so scrambled in those opening minutes. Still, the curse of sitting on early goals is a pretty rookie match pattern, especially if away goals are a factor - not that im complaining.

ETA: just saw this post match analysis flagged up from that same site
3 things we learned from Juventus’ 2-2 draw with Tottenham
true about the defence and Aurier missing next leg might not be such a bad thing. Would rather see Trippier and also Son back for the next leg personally.
