Tottenham Hale - shithole

There's a lot going on in tottenham hale, if you scratch beneath the surface. There's a whole bunch of peeps living in warehouses round there, my mate lives in one. Its so big they have a stage in their front room.
So I don't care that its shitty round the station, there's a lot going on here and I've got a lot of mates here.

You have also got the River Lea to walk along, Tottenham Marshes to wander around and you have got the reservoirs north and south of Forest Road which for the sum of £1.00 you can spend the whole day walking around. For nearby refreshments you have the Ferry Boat Inn. Dosent sound too bad too me.

yeah but it's handy for the Stansted Express, so it has got ONE thing going for it

Had just abouts the largest empty warehouse in London.

Handy for raves.

Other than that, dump.

I'm sure there is, but my walk to Philip Lane from the station was especially depressing. It was almost all road, with the pavement actually disappearing - LA style - at one point to make more room for yet more lanes of traffic.

It was 10 minutes of sheer, relentless, soul crushing ugliness.

That roundabout is one of London's little lowlights.

Here's my Rollergirl video:

I don't think I've ever been to this roundabout!

I demand that you take me out on a romantic walk to this roundabout.

We can have ice cream when we get there. :D

Yes the river Lea (Lee?) is great. I stayed on it last weekend and had a lovely time.

Me and Han saw a weird creature grazing by the reservoir which looked like a cross between a sheep, a cow and a horse. Pics to follow.

You should have got off at Seven Sisters. Bit more normal Tottenham life coming from that direction and it's actually nearer if you come out of the right exit. (I just looked on a map and Tottenham Hale looks closer but as you found out it's not exactly a pedestrian route).

I know that, but I fancied taking a look at somewhere new.

I'd been to T Hale before to meet an ex girlfriend for a meal at that insufferably ugly and depressing block of big brand food outlets close to the station, and wondered if it could get any worse.

It could.

there was the odd moment where I felt what it really needed was a motorbike with spiked wheels, to be fair

as it was the first event, perhaps the organisers will appreciate feedback as to how it can be improved for next time :)

Quite a few people I spoke too (all blokes, natch) fancied less clothing on the girls might be a good start.

There is actually 1 pretty nice restaurant in Tottenham Hale, down by the river. It's run by some chef who trained with Gordon Ramsey and you can get a 3 course Sunday Lunch for £12.

Seven Sisters is less of a wasteland than Tottenham Hale, certainly, but I wouldn't include it in any tourist guides, put it that way.

Given the way property prices are going, I'm surprised that someone hasn't gone:

"Hmm...good links to Stansted Airport, on the Victoria line, goes into Liverpool Street...let's flatten some stuff and build rah-ty pads!"

There is nothing at Tottenham Hale as it was just built as an interchange between the Victoria Line and the ONE lines to Hertford and Cambridge.

Seven Sisters and Tottenham (Swan), however, are the biggest shit holes this side of Newport Pagnell.

No, it didn't have the horn. Han's got some pics too, and still hasn't put them up despite me hassling her.

Watch this space.

Tottenham is indeed horrible. I lived there back in the early 90s. Turnpike Lane was luxury in comparison as it had a cinema (the coronet, since replaced with a multiplex and glamerous Shopping City in Wood Green.

Tottenham is not horrible. It might not have much going on on the high st, but that isn't that important to everyone. It has some fantastic parks, a tudor castle and the Lee valley which is a stunning part of London. It's an absolutely fantastic place to own energetic dogs and there is loads of really cheap fruit and veg available 24 hours a day. And it has got some of the best transport in Zone 3.

I remember some absolutely cracking squat parties in the early noughties around there, probably in some of the warehouses you mention...
