Total Solar Eclipse Festival on Easter Island Anyone?

That's just a teensy weensy bit less than £2,500+ though.

I know, i was just being a nobend really. based on my own standards, I'd not pay that much to go to Glasto. Many here wouldn't bat an eyelid over paying that much. It's just a case of where to draw the line. And that line will differ for everyone, it's a little "un-urban" to make such a sweeping statement.

Way to go on missing the point!

PS Seeing as it appears to be a small amount of dosh to you, when was the last time you spent over £2.5k on a short festival beano?

no it's not a small amount of money to me, but if i was a trance hippy with a job i would be saving like a bastard to go to a trance festival on easter island during a solar eclipse. it doesn't get any more trance hippy than that

it's in july 2010 so you have 11 months to save about £3000 for something you'll never see again, it's not exactly that hotel in dubai

it would be weird to actually go there

you know everyone wants to see it cos it's one of the weirdest things that humans have done. but to actually go and fly for half a day to a tiny island with statues on it

i do have to go at some time. you'd blatantly meet some interesting people on the plane

Unless you were on the plane bringing over the psy-trance explorers, of course. :)

I'd love to visit the island too. Seeing the total eclipse fall over the ancient statues sounds like a truly magical experience - except now the beautiful silence on the island will be trashed by a babble of gurning tranceheads blasting out their shit glo-stick music.

it's blatantly someone's ultimate dream in life and they are going to get on the plane to fulfill their lifes ambition and they'll get on the plane and everyone will be talking about drugs and playing djembes the whole way there :(

I doubt it will happen, tbh. Was talking to someone about it over the weekend - there's massive local opposition to the festival and to eclipse tourism generally, the organisers have missed their own deadlines for releasing the line up and there's disgruntlement creeping in on forums.

Oh, and everyone who went to glasto, at 180 quid a pop is an overprivelliged cunt :) (or just a cunt, not made my mind up on that yet :D )

I went to Glastonbury and didn't pay a cent to get in. Does that make me under privileged?

it would have happened a few years ago when there was more money about for this sort of thing

Excellent. Save the Easter Islanders from the horrors of glo-stick wielding, eclipse trashing, white-gloved trancedorks!

If you're going to visit Easter Island, this looks a far better festival:
The island sporting competitions are based on ancient sports, such as sliding down a cliff on a banana tree in haka pei competition. The person who stays on the log longest wins. Another popular event includes swimming, oaring across the lake at Rano Raraku in a reed tortora raft and then racing around the lake balancing banana bunches over the shoulders.

Oh my Lord. In the face of what they're claiming is an 'internet sabotage campaign' the organisers have made a well LOLsome statement defending their trance party, new age bongo fest music festival for mystic and ecological tourists.
The project has never been officially promoted as “an electronic dance party” on our official website, promo video,
flyers or publicity campaign. We are, in fact, an integrated arts and music festival for “mystic and ecological tourists”.

The project also includes the participation of the Rapanui people as the main cultural impulse andcentral concept.

Concerning the music, the festival has programmed the stage “Honu Rapa Nui” which will gather art, music and dance from the islands finest artists. Its production will be untaken by “Mata Nui a Hotu Matu’a o Kahu-Kahu oHera” Cultural Corporation.

The Corporation was founded over 15 years ago and have been supported and recognized by UNESCO (see http://www.netaxs.com/~trance/outrig.html).

Alternatively, international travellers will be given a modern stage comprising of musical styles like World Music, Ethnic, Tribal, Electro-acoustic, Trance, Psy, New Age, Ambient, amongst others, presenting some of the world finest artists within these genres.

Honu Eclipse 2010 proposes a musical and artistic gathering of the most influential, diverse tribes from around the world, within a healthy environment that promotes peace and consciousness.

This is presented in the official slogans’ of the event “Total Solar Eclipse Festival of Tribal and Cosmic Arts for Peace” that “Celebrates the Peace of Rapa Nui Culture”. Concepts that are world’s apart from that of an “electronic dance party”

:D Nice. Let's hope that statement came out before too many trancebunnies handed over their dollars.

Surely the relevant local authorities will simply be able to withdraw or withhold permission for this festival to take part, if they are so opposed to it. Which jurisdiction would it fall under? Chile?

There are plenty of islands that don't cost huge stacks of cash to get to and are equally as interesting.

The Andaman Islands are a case in point. Get the boat for with a deck ticket and hang a hammock. Two day trip. Very beautiful I am told. Just stay to the legal areas or you'll fuck the place up.

Here's the festival concept:

# The dark truth is that the Pacific Sea Turtle is in danger of extinction at the hand of human unconsciousness. Plastic bags are mistaken for jellyfish and cause almost instant death to the turtles. It’s a fact that 50% of dead turtles found in the sea have been found with plastic in their stomachs.
# The same is occurring with the eco-habitat on Rapa Nui, in great danger for its ancient deforestation and the shortage of ecological solutions to save the environment. Once upon a time Rapa Nui was a paradise, covered in palm trees and a sanctuary for thousands of birds. Its beaches, a breeding ground for the turtles. Now it is a baron landscape, with little native flora and fauna remaining.
# Therefore, beneath the symbolic meaning of the Honu, the festival has the peaceful intention to minimise its own ecological impact and balance it giving sustainable technologies to help preserve the environment, and therefore preserve the cultural heritage of Rapa Nui.
# So, the “Honu” concept can been understood as a feeling of peace and respect for all the ancient cultures and natural environments in danger of extinction, just like Rapa Nui.

WTF? That's just a load of eco-twaddle, isn't it?

It sort of makes sense to me. up to a point. How a trance festival is going to revitalise the local ecology is beyond me. :hmm:
They prattle on about the plight of the turtles but they're not actually doing anything at all to help - in fact, with a load of blissed up tranceheads stomping all over the island and blasting out their awful racket, they're more likely to make thing worse for them.

It's the worst kind of faux-hippy blether.
