I really don't think the English Democrats are fascists. They certainly don't think they are. Have a look at their policies on their website. A fair amount may be considered right of centre but what's fascist about it?

EDIT: Apologies if I'm wrong, but you're not confusing them with the England First Party, are you Jim? Now, they really are a bunch of right arm raisers. :)

The English Democrats are not quite extreme far-right loons... Charlie is right, the EFP (stood in Preston a few years back) are more your neo-types.

The candidates in Bromley so far - deadline is tomorrow I believe - are the main three, plus UKIP, two independents, English Democrats and a Monster Raving Loon.

the EDP are formally linked via a co- ordinating body called the English Lobby to both the Freedom Party and Third Way, pretty much open fascist groupings

while certainly not jackboot wearing seig-heilers, they are defiately soft fascists at least

The BNP don't seem to be going in for by-elections recently, I find this strange, frankly - they're on a high generally and standing would mean more publicity for them. Is it because they'd rather save a few bob?

Full candidates are now known for Bromley...

Liberal Democrats - Ben Abbotts
Money Reform Party - Anne Belsey
Monster Raving Loony - John Cartwright
UK Independence - Nigel Farage
Green - Ann Garrett
Independent - Nick Hadziannis
Independent - John Hemming-Clark
Conservative - Bob Neill
Labour - Rachel Reeves
English Democrats - Steven Uncles
National Front - Paul Winnett

If he gave a shit about other people he wouldn;t have done the job he did - ie wrecking legislation.

It's Karma innit?

It may be to you, but it does come across as though you've nothing nice to say about anyone.... =/

I've nothing nice to say about politicians.

What should I say stuff like - "that Tony Blair, I really admire his honesty I do".

It'll just come across as sarcastic I'm afraid.

He was a cunt, like all tories. Fuck them all, the only good tory is a dead one.

A good result for the LibDems - Labour vote collapses and the "votes of the left" go to us rather than the Greens, whose vote is reduced.

Yes, but only by 0.4% compared to percentage last time, a negligible drop, especially in a classic libdem by-election bandwagon squeeze situation. I think the Green core vote held together remarkably well. And we got the fifth place as Matt predicted, beating all the assorted extreme rightists and loony candidates.
The Lib Dems did well - whether they can reproduce or better that result in a General election is another matter entirely.
UKIP must be sick after spending all that dosh with their main national figure as candidate, with the main result being that the Euro-friendly Lib Dems almost beat the more Euro-sceptic Tory.

I will not re-write my original post but I will not be entirely disrespectful to the Greens - damn good show to beat the AN Other candidates, and I agree about UKIP, too, with their leader not getting the breakthrough result I'm sure they wanted.

Where Greens stood in marginal Lab/LD or Lab/Tory constituencies in the 2005 GE, our average result was 2.2% compared to 3.4% average overall. Some element of marginal squeeze in this one, but probably less than usual because many Greens will have seen this as a safe Tory seat.

Obviously not a great result, as we haven't improved our vote, despite the efforts of Matt and many others. Waiting to see what the cost per vote works out as when the electoral returns are filed. I think we probably spent about £750 ish, which is about £1 per vote. I'd be interested to see the cost per vote for both UKIP and the Lib Dems...

I'm sorry about that MT. :( I did forward your details....

Matt

It's upsetting cos I've been involved with the Green Party on and off for 15 years and they never seem to be as organised as they should be.

The last campaign I helped organise was such a frustrating experience that I actually left the party for a while.

That is often still true, though I sincerely think that it is getting better every year. Apologies again.
