He is still going, fair play to the lad.
Has been fed by a tube (taped to his back) for a while but ate something himself for the first time the other day.
Seems he had a stroke and some organ failure so is struggling to walk but the vet thinks he may well stay around a while longer

The younger tortoises do not all need to hibernate, especially now most houses have central heating and tanks have heat mats/lights.

so in the winter does he just chill around the house?

Yep, he was happy enough racing around on the balcony in the summer but was not a fan of the cold at all.

Archie is doing better.

I have not seen the lad for a while but reports from his owners are positive.
He seems to be more mobile and is now finding his own food rather than being hand fed all the time.

He is in a much smaller enclosure than he is use to as his new one from home was too big to bring here. He is currently doing laps of the tank.
I feel really sorry for him and have got him out to run around lots of times since getting up but as its cold, he then instantly wants to get back in.
He has been fed and I guess I will just keep repeating the small bouts of excersise until he gets tired again.

Any ideas any one?

Determined is a good word. The noble tortoise is a tricky animal to describe. Simple creatures but there is also a lot going on there. They just don't seem to fit into the world but have a way of stomping through their day. Quality animal

Just had Archies mum round and she says he is on fine form, nearly a full recovery which is good news. He is moving away soon though (Scotland) so gonna see less of the lad now. Apparently we have a framed picture of him wearing a Christmas jumper coming to us soon
