Torrents - what am I doing wrong?

You can buy a domain, like www.beesandaqua.com* and run the web and any other internet server you like in your house. They come for free with BeThere, just have to ask for one.

I've not got one, cant be bothered.

*its available, 25 quid for two years for .com addresses I think.

Ah, no need to do that, any website I may ever do (for my work possibly) I'll just get hosted somewhere.

Aqua is currently on the phone to Be, putting our order in :)

how much :eek::eek:

for a dotcom......

jesus christ they must see people coming...

for refference dotcoms cost around £9 a year... max... .co.uk's are about £3 a year

s'alright they pay aroud £50 a year for co.uk's at work despite my pointing out that you can get them cheaper the old head of IT said he didn't want budget domains...

What a fucking nob

I buy mine from godaddy.com. Usually about $8.99 for a .com per year, so whatever that is in £s. Same for a .co.uk but you have to buy 2 years at a time with those.

Anyone get dodgy letters from nominet when you're .co.uk is getting near to the end of its life? They make me so angry

Well, we're finally up and running on BeInternet.

Only getting 8meg down and 1meg up, which isn't quite as fast as I thought we'd get, but it's a million miles better than Virgin....

I downloaded utorrent, and did a search in google for what I want (the film Baraka), this directed me to a site, I clicked the link there and it appears in utorrent.

Dude, i got this on dvd, i'll bring it over when im in the area, probably tomorrow? I'll text you.

Er edit, i meant Saturday :p

nope don't give em your details it's a volentary service despite what they might advise you ...

Yeah, I know. It makes me mad because I reckon they must get a fair few people worry thinking they have to fork over their £80 to hold on to their domain. It says at the bottom of the letter something like "you don't have to go with us, you could go directly to one of our partners to make a huge saving and only pay £50" or something

The way it's worded is really fucking dodgy. I've a good mind to go to Watchdog  :p

Seeds - 17(62) Number of people who have the complete file and are upload or sharing it
Peers - 8(164) Number of people who have partial file/s and are uploading it but also downloading it some of which you might have some of which you might have a 'bit' of it but not the whole thing.
Down Speed - 8.4kb/sec download speed (set this to a max of 125 kbs)
Up Speed - 32.5kb/sec upload speed (set this to around 7 to 15 kbs that way it's uploading but the contention and bandwidth useage isn't astronomical.

Ratio - 0.961 Amount downloaded v's the amount uploaded
Avail - 23.996 Number of slots or queing places avaialbe. ( i think)

I have a Virgin/cable 2 meg line and it sometimes goes to 250kb per sec.

Depends on how many people are seeds with good lines themselves and how many people like you are trying to get it.

To improve it don't get offline once you get it 100%! Give back a bit! Like overnight, as mentioned, at least!

It depends partially - sometimes - on your speed uploading, as well... I limit mine [upload] to 20, max 25kb.

www.torrentscan.com - check out the fioles you need but check out the number of seeds and peers!!! Always right click on a link and read the comments, as well - any trojans etc.

Good FAQ here: www.utorrent.com

Good luck!

that would require me having a connection to bt which is never going to happen they earn enough money already and i'm not preparred to give them a penny more ...

There are plenty of 3rd party companies that will sell you a landline.

Of course, they all resell from BT so your money ends up there in the end.
