The station agent.

I love it.
I saw this the other week and it is fantastic. It got good reviews and I thought it did quite well at the cinema (for an indie-ish film) though so not sure about underrated.

F is for Fake
Malcolm
Pelham 123 (thanks for the reminder)
Zardoz (ditto)
The President's Analyst
Matrix Reloaded (I know most people think its a load of incomprehensible bollox, but still..)

Yeah that's true. There must be a film that people think is shit that I love to death.

Back in a mo.

A few of these have already been mentioned. The rest have probably been mentioned as well:-

The Last Great Wilderness - if you ever see this in the shops, ignore the picture on the cover and get it.

Dark City - Well above average Sci-Fi, but noone I ever speak to has even heard of it never mind seen it.

13 Tzameti - has already been mentioned.

They Live! - the best one liner and probably the best fight scene in any movie.

Little Otik - has to be seen to be believed

Near Dark - top notch vampire flick. Not sure the end really makes sense but it's a cracking film anyways.

Dead and Buried - very imaginative zombie movie

Della morte dellamor - very imaginative zombie movie. Starring Rupert Everett.

Borsalino - probably pushing the 'underated' tag a bit, but Alain Delon and Jean Paul Belmondo on screen together - can't complain.

The Last Starfighter - ok it's shit. But I loved it as a kid and noone has ever heard of it :(

:(

I loved this when I was younger. I missed it on telly (apart from the last 10 minutes) the other day, but two days later a check disk DVD popped though my door. Stupidest end ever bar trilogy ones end (actualy that's ace).

7 The Thin Red Line

Awful awful film. A bunch of Hollywood actors and a Hollywood director who thought they could engineer an Oscar.

Woody's dying swan scene is such a hammy going for the Oscar scene it wouldn't look out of place in a spoof comedy.

Good choices and I've heard of them :P

Film 4 have being playing Near Dark recently which is great. I've moaned for years that its one of the best vampire films ever yet they rarely show it on TV. ALways repeating lesser vamp films instead.

Dark City explored the concept of fabricated reality way before The Matrix brought the idea to the masses.

Did anyone ever rate vampires kiss? I heard it was utter rubbish and left it on the shelf for about three years.

When I finaly got round to watching it I found it to be utterly fantastic. Nicolas Cage is a fantastic mentalist! This should be a cult classic but I have never heard anything really said about it.

It got great reviews when it came out and is considered a minor cult film, but if you really liked it then it's probably underrated.

13 months actually but I must admit I thought it was out 2 or 3 years before the Matrix not a mere year.

Was given this a couple of years back by my mate who highly recommended it. Couldn't get into it so gave up. May give it another bash :)

I wouldn't exactly say that Dark City was 'way before' the Matrix, I believe the two films were only about six months apart.

It is the superior film though. I can remember my friends going nuts about the Matrix, and while I enjoyed it I thought it inferior to Dark City.
Which nobody I've met IRL has ever seen or heard of

I thought Dark City was alright (but no better)... until the last battle, which was hilariously poorly done. So much so, I couldn't stop laughing and missed the remainder. :D

I think they are both pretty good films actually. One can't really deny that the Matrix has been arguably one of, if not the most influential film of the last 10 years. I thought that despite some superficial similarities, Dark City and the Matrix are actually quite different.

One thing that let Dark City down a bit for me was the baddies. Way too camp...

I agree. For me it was one of these films which had a really good idea/concept, but at times was a bit awkwardly done somehow.

I find Dark City a lot more sinister and the crime to humanity far greater.

In both you are ignorant to being used but in the Matrix they lead a fairly normal life being allowed to form normal continuous relationships, careers etc.

Yet in Dark City you could meet someone and fall in love but at midnight that love was wiped and new memories implanted. There was no freedom of choice at all as there was no continuity, long term benefit or consequences to anything you did.

united v flight 93

united 93 v flight 93
Having watched both films. First Flight 93 then United 93, I found the oscar nomination for united 93 misplaced. Flight 93 is far the superiour film.
United trys for a quasi semi-documnetary style that becomes just boring.
The suspense of the flight 93 film is far better portrayed.

Just watched Headwig and the Angry Itch - I heard some pretty bad things about this but its an absolute masterpiece - comic, tragic, personal, every moment is full of detail and every word is crafted - charged and intense - blew me away - cant believe it got slated by some...

I like it too, but it was one of the best reviewed films of 2001 and won loads of awards at independent film festivals all around the world.

WEll then there's justice!
That anyone could give it two stars (like in my crappy film guide book) is a a traversty though - it dont think it was universally rated, but it should be. I can't think of a more powerful musical ever made...

It's a brilliant film . I first saw it on a flight to Australia a few years back ( probably when it was released ) I think I watched it twice on the way out and once on the way back . I really want the soundtrack as well :D
