Top Gear tonight

or just helping mr Clarkson's production company secure a fat check for the next series in a time of cut backs

...or simply a bunch of eejits reading far too much into a single sequence?

On what knowledge are you basing your comment that Top Gear - one of the BBCs highest rated shows in the UK (highest on BBC2), and one of it's bestsellers to overseas markets via BBC Worldwide - isn't likely to be recommissioned for another season?

Didn't Louis Theroux do a program and meet Jay Leno then look at his car collection.

Say Here about May and Hammond contract to end of July.

or even a sentence. There is no reason why Top Gears budget should be ring fenced

Anyone else think Hammond should go , and a woman should perhaps be brought in? * packs bags ready to get kicked out of the discussion *

Hammond is sort of the weak link though. Clarkson is all about super fast cars and explosions , James May is the sensible one ( more likely to look out for Mr and Mrs average ) but Hammond doesn't really fit in , he's sort of in the middle of Clarkson and May.

You're all missing one important thing here - Hammond brings in the laydeez. The gfs and wives of TG bores watch the show for Hammond (and to a lesser extent May).

and hammond is friend to the boy racers, which is an importent demographic.

May is the pointless one. I don't care about his opnions and he isn't funny.

Depends whether you see Top Gear as a show for entertainment or something factual and informative . James May does inform ( look at his advert , he wanted to tell you about MPG , carbon footprint etc ) .

Its just a piece of fun, and as such I have no problem with it carrying on as is for a few more years.

I like the silly challenges, usually the ones that are abroad.

I want to goo ooooh thats a pretty car and know it handles well and the engine is cool, but i would never buiy a car on the basis of a top gear review.

Its all about the entertainment and has been for ages and ages.

I doubt last night's Top Gear was the last. I can't see the BBC killing it off now: it's one of the most popular programmes they make. Two years ago Clarkson said in a newspaper column it wouldn't be back, mainly just for the sake of being provocative, and I reckon the piece at the end of last night's show was meant to achieve the same thing. If that's the case it's worked, given all the speculation it's triggered...

Top Gear is starting to get a bit tired. The last two or three series have had their moments but they've not been as good as some of the earlier ones. It does need some fresh ideas, or maybe a new presenter - although tbh I quite like the existing ones. At its best it's still great entertainment, though.

In favour of keeping the old 3 and adding a new one to the mix then?

Hammond's 'local radio voice' is very grating. I say ditch him and get us a fit bint in.

If they did get a female presenter , I don't want her to be anything like the one in Fifth Gear . She reminds me of a female Clarkson

Is that VBH?

I'd so do her.

It is, and she started life as a Top Gear presenter back in the days of Tiff and that weasly little stoat 2nd hand car boy. I also suspect that she's had some kind of 'thing' with Tiff...

And I echo 8ball's sentiment...

I think Hammond is getting a bit annoying now. I used to like him but his personality is the most exhausted out of all them.

I think Clarkson is very entertaining and May I like. He's done some very interesting programs outside of top gear, especially that recent one where he flew up in the U2 plane.

What does Hammond actually bring to the programme? Apart from women.

Do women actually watch it for him? Just asked ms starfish & she said yuck.

BTW does anyone know what the piece of music they played over the Aston Martin end bit is.
