Top clubs consider overseas games

If they must do this (and I really don't see why they do)- couldn't they have a Premier League sponsored quick and dirty 3 week knockout tournament thats kept a bit separate? Seedings decided by league finishing position.

I think that to keep any credibility, this is the only thing they can do. You can't just go fucking around with the league structure willy-nilly, adding extra games and weird seeding clauses.

It seems like the whole idea has been scrawled down on the back of a beer mat after an afternoon in the pub.

this is all confusing to me. why are they going to mess around with the best league in the world? if it is not broke don't try and bloody fix it.

nah it's bollox that play off nonsense, I'd been cheering on DC United all season saw them top the league only to have to play some joker play off shit and get put out by the Chicago chumps who'd done fuck all over the whole season. How the fuck is that a fair way of decided the league?

If only this would happen to Man Utd too :D

Is that a joke? 'The best league in the world' - a stale pile of shite where everyone talks more about stocks and shares than football. The football at the bottom of my road on the rec is more interesting to me than the premier league.

At least I can still stomach cricket.

It would have to be a separate tournament.

I hate that thing they have in the Guinness Premiership (Rugby Union). The point of a league is that it's not a cup.

It's nuts. We've heard plenty from the chairman and associated suits, but I wonder what the managers make of it.

The Championship?:D

Anyhoo, got to love the quote from Scudamore:

Richard Scudamore, the Premier League chief executive, insisted that the plan was not simply motivated by a desire to make money for the league and its clubs. “I would refute this is a commercially driven exercise,” he said. “But it is a way of taking the Premier League forward. If we don’t do it, somebody else will.”

The contempt is fucking jaw dropping.

Be interesting to see if the champions league/uefa cup/relegation places change as a result of these matches....

... lose money = talk to lawyers....

i really really fucking hate this idea

it sucks :(

is ther a petition to sign? a picket line to join? a brick to throw through scudamore's luxury car's window?

Pretty much agree with all of that....and I don't even support a club involved in this. It's a slippery slope.

Fucking hell, and who was moaning about American Football's rampant commercialism on another thread?

This is so much worse. Distorting the shape and balance of an already overstressed season to make a few extra bucks.

Its a load of bollox.

Totally fucked up actually. The crowd would be screaming just because they are there. I've now got the distinct impression that the Premier League forget that fans even go to football matches.

I'd love to organise a month of action that nobody went to the game for a month, just to remind them that without the fans their brand is worth precisely fuck all.

somebody, somewhere must be planning something.

there is a poll on the football supporters federation website.

Hmm... a lot of managers seem to be throwing their weight behind it, so far we have Keane, Keegan, Megson and Wenger all on the ayes and only Redknapp on the nays.

Fergie's keeping quiet, but seems pissed off (as usual) that he wasn't consulted on the whole idea first.

Arsene "we need a winter break" Wenger is for it...jesus those repayments on the Emirates must be something else :D

football sold out a long long time ago. This is not a surprise.

I'm currently watching the Derby chairman giving an interview - rubbing his hands with glee of making more money.

Thats a fuckin shame:( was hoping the managers would make a stand,if it happens I do hope I never hear that old "too many games, the players are knackered" excuse ever again.

Levy did a good one today... "the game is already sent to 200 countries and we need to serve those fans, as well as the ones here."
