Top clubs consider overseas games

The Football League is the best league in the world, you all didn't want to play in it and we're better off to be fair. bye :)

Ian wrights spot on with every single point he makes. How much money do they fucking need?? ffs! Its not like they're under threat of losing money or anything.

Welcome to the Rio, where excitement has reached boiling point as we approach the kick off between Wigan and Bolton. The Brazilian fans are in for a real treat tonight, Gary...

Surprise surprise its the worlds greediest football league thats come up with this idea:rolleyes:,I imagine if life was discovered on Mars they'd extend it to there as well,

Just heard on talksport that harry redknapp confirmed that from next season there will be 7 substitutes you can name in a prem match, which i am in favour of. Man that came out of nowhere didnt it? Also he said this idea of going overseas was ridiculous.

Birmingham chairman was just on talksport trying to make it sound like an exciting oppotunity.ahahahaha.lets see how exciting it is when your team gets relegated after playing man utd or someone in a foreign country. FUCKER. I BET YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT IT THEN BITCH.

I don't really understand the response.

I can only think a lot of people still don't 'get' what the Premiership is about, or perhaps are reluctant to accept the reality - what do you really think all these foreign owners are doing here, why do you think almost every club is a plc?

Really, this development is exactly and entirely appropriate for the brand. Seriously, I rec. non-league.

Maybe it's just a shock for people to see it laid out so plainly. Not everybody's as clever as you LC, you need to remember that.

Ive said it before about Prem footie:-

1st comes profit
2nd comes profit
3rd comes profit
2564th comes what fans want!

Support your local lower league or non league team and leave it to them to fuck themselves up with their greed!!

This.

This is something I feel that's been coming for a while. The television audiences and support worldwide are confirmation of this. There is a lot of money to be made exporting games to other countries, the American sports have already seized on this, now the Premier League is too.

And there really can't be any surprise if this does happen, because club owners aren't going to turn their noses up to exporting their own brand (club) to a global audience. It'll be a massive money-spinner, but it'll also expose the ever-growing chasm between the top flight and everyone else.

I think my big problem with it is that it makes the season unfair. If the league isn't symmetrical then it's flawed as a competition. That destroys the whole point of it.

Of course this has been coming for a while but it's still a shock to see it being done so brazenly.

yeah, i don't particularly give a fuck about games being played elsewhere (being Irish i find it rich that English fans get so parochial about their game despite the fact they've been draining other countires of their talent for decades) so much as the bullshit contrived rule changes to the league that will make it a joke. It won't be long till they are proposing stupid yank style play offs.

What he said. I don't get how this would work in the slightest yet. How can you have a league were one team will play another team 3 times and everyone else twice?

The idea is rubbish. Constant travelling will only disrupt the form of players (particularly if we're talking about matches in SE Asia) and affecting the "quality" of play to the domestic audience, which should be the priority in any case, and AFAIK, most clubs have their attendance' average above the 90% mark.

Even worse is making those games part of the actual season fixtures. If they really want to go with this farce ahead, play the charity shield or the quarter and semi finals (when teams that would actually appreciate hosting ManU, Chelsea, Arsenal and the like are already out) of the mickey mouse cup abroad.

I prefer the playoff style you get in American sports and now in Rugby. I'd say it was because my team is never involved and the drama of one or done matches keeps me interested, but when my team was involved it was fantastic too.

nah it's bollox that play off nonsense, I'd been cheering on DC United all season saw them top the league only to have to play some joker play off shit and get put out by the Chicago chumps who'd done fuck all over the whole season. How the fuck is that a fair way of decided the league?

if they have a league and at the end of the season have a play off to decide who are champions, what is the fucking point of that league in the first place?

Yup - and with the seeding that they're suggesting, that would mean that the bigger clubs extra games are against soft opposition, thus making the league even less flexible and exciting. It also ensures that they spread the clubs that are more popular abroad over all 10 games, so there's no chance of ending up with Derby vs Bolton (attendance 5) and Man U vs Chelsea attendance (100,000).

If they must do this (and I really don't see why they do)- couldn't they have a Premier League sponsored quick and dirty 3 week knockout tournament thats kept a bit separate? Seedings decided by league finishing position.
