Top 5 Techno Tunes

I'd argue that it was the first of its type and therefore a crossover between techno and "hard trance/nu energy"

And I was there at the time too :p

Can I give Red Planet - Star Dancer, Slam - Positive Education and Dave Clark - Wisdom to the Wise honourable mentions.

This is hard..

Audion - The Pong
Sugar Experiment Station - Neuspotter NS465ANR
Neil Landstrumm - Custard Traxx
Hardfloor - Roarrh
The Mover - Nightflight

Nope, there's still loads more

bit out of touch with techno these days but my top 5 are-
Rhythim Is Rhythim - It Is What It Is
Cybersonic - Technarchy
Joey Beltram - Energy Flash
Hardfloor - Acperience
Jeff Mills - The Bells (this came to mind coz I heard an orchestral version of it the other day)

check out sonic destroyer on the same album - it's fucking ace (you can download it from my jeff mills thread if you want...)

hmm tricky one this but in no particular order :-

the bells - jeff mills
when I rock - thomas schumacher
squat rock - shaft punk - possibly the most twisted acid techno tune ever....
bloodangels - john starlight - advant guarde analogue wierdness - brilliant
Andreas Krämer · Der Leitwolf - twisted dark lovelyness - caned this for years......

and probably loads of others I can't think of right now......

Underworld - Cowgirl
Kektex - The Next Phase
Holy Ghost - Twister
Orbital - Chime
Rozzer's Dog - The Pusher the Pimp and the Panther

I'm a bit out of touch, mind. Probably some excellent stuff come out in the last few years that I haven't heard.

Dammit we've had this discussion  :D

I have some really good tapes from '93-'94 that are hard trance and techno mixed together from the legendary Diehard rave in Leicester. You could get away with it then when trance was decent.

Nexus 6 - Tres Chic and Climax - Relax (mental mix) are other good ones from that era.

Cygnus X - The Orange Theme
Chosen Few - The Break
Nasenbluten - Race Against Time
Predator & Wedlock - Get On Down
Lenny Dee & DJ Edge - Silence Of Eternity

Fuck all this acid techno purist bollocks - proper techno should make your teeth vibrate :p :D

If we are talking old gabber and hardcore then

Juggernaut - World Of The LSD User
Spy - Bloodstrike (what the hell happened with John Selway?)
Mescalinum United - We Have Arrived
Genetic Waste - Genetic Waste
Turbulence - The Home Of The Sick

Wish I could name my five favourites but as I don't buy vinyl anymore I hardly ever know the names of the artists or titles :(
However two tunes I love (and DO know the names of) are Knights of the Jaguar (old Detroit tune) and Murder is the Bass.

Is that the one with a thunderstome kinda thingamy at the start. Kerchooow chooo choo etc wtf lol?

uses the sample 'silence of eternity' half way through the track (funnily enough)

as for a top 5, there's too many to choose from + too many in each sub-genre e.g. top 5 rave/acid/belgian/hardcore/detroit etc... but would probably contain at least 2 by The Mover

... is almost exactly how I'd have described it :D  The only tune ever AFAIK to feature a foghorn solo halfway through.

The first rebirth - jones and stephenson

I'd forgotten that. I never even knew its name. Fucking choon :D

Yeah, knights of the Jaguar for sure.

And Positive Education

And something by Laurent Garnier I can't remember the name of. The one with Sore Hands on the B side.

And Some Dave Clark stuff too.

God my memory is fucked.

I was listening to the first Eye Q compilation behind the eye yesterday. It was all pretty good in the sunshine and reminded me a lot of blue room parties on the beach in brighton....is this techno? kinda bubbly proto trance? who knows/cares. Vernon's - Wanderer and Goahead - freebeach were nice....also a nice mix of cafe del mar.

Most of the techno I like isnt really pure stuff but where it merges into house like Slam/silicolne soul etc. Carl Craig's paperclip people etc.

There are some goodies on the first few trans europe express comps as well.
