Top 5 DnB/Jungle tunes ...

ONLY 5??? I can't really make a definitive list because I'd have to look througha ll my tunes and listen to them, and thankfully I don't have them all here cos otherwise I wouldn't be doing any work today!
Here's a quick effort:

Ray Keith- Terrorist
Congo Natty- Police in Helicopter
Shy Fx feat Gunsmoke - Gangsta Kid
Remarc- In Da Hood
Panacea- King of the Jungle (DJ Scud's Burntout Raver Mix)

I'd also like Concord Dawn & D Kay feat Raw.Full "I'll be there 4 U in the morning light" (or whatever the fuck it's called!)

Also classic oldskool numbers:
Chopper
Terminator
and "Lighter"
Oh dear.
5's just too few!!

is that the one that goes te-tete-tech, technology!

cracked me up the other day, one of my lecturers has a bit of a stutter - she was talkin bout industrialisation and that world comes up a lot.... oh for a pair of decks and that tune in the back row... here comes the drop!!

I think that's Trick of Technology by Prisoners of Technology on Fresh Kutt which might graze my top ten, which I'm considering at the moment....

4. Basement Track - High Contrast
I'm surprsied how often this has come up on these lists - I think its one of HC's more average tracks.

Anyhow, in my 10 i've tried to pick tracks that I can still listen to today and still enjoy as much as ever - tracks like helicopter etc, are just too battered for me. Found it hard to pick newer tracks - need more time to work out if they will survive the test of time.

so ive gone:

  • - 28 Gun Bad Boy - Guy Called Gerald ('92) - The first Jungle track ever? Incidentally, i've just seen a copy of this going for £127! here: http://www.netsoundsmusic.com/nsudsii/2/254920566/1199/2.html It says 93 on that site, but Im pretty sure it came out earlier as a one track 12.
  • - Tic Tac Toe ('93) no tracknames - rumour has it this was by Fabio, Grooverdier + Mickey Finn - love this to bits still...both sides
  • -DJ Buzz – Slave (No U-Turn) (94) - No U-Turn went on to pretty much invent the whole tech step sound that is modern DnB - important label. THis one is just fierce drum choppping + programming
  • -Firefox and Red Tree - Warning (95?) - Actually made by ROni Size and someone else (forget who), I reckon this is the best reggae sample Jungle track of all time.
  • -DJ Ron - CAnaan Land (95) What a Don producer Ron was - his later stuff never adapted to new style dnb, but in jungle days he was maybe the most original producer on the scene
  • -LTJ Buken - Music (That Peshay Remix 96ish) Better than the original I reckon. still gets pulled out regularly at home.
  • - Marcus Intalex & ST Files - Dreamworld (2001) love the deep techno edge they brought to dnb, especially with this one. Wish they would make more tuens like this. That recent Red 7 acid track is more like it.
  • -J Majik - Spaced Invader (2002?) - The best house style track of them all to date.
  • -Dillinja - Why? (2001) - classic - I reckon Dillinja is one of the only people to make dnb where you can hear real suffering. On this cut definitely and other tracks like I Feel Your Pain, and others too...
  • -How about Twisted Individual's Swan Cake (2006) - for a future classic?

..boys and their lists, eh?!

2 bad mice - waremouse
thats a fair enough call. It would be hard to really pinpoint the first one, or what makes a track junglist. 28 Gun had the additional element of a reggae mc voice though, which really seeled the jungle formula - but obviously jungle doesnt have to have that to be a jungle track.
