Don't forget about the European radical left who in their frenzy of anti Americanism forget about their cozy relationship with the president of Uzbekistan.

All America all the time.

Are you feeling alright Mears? Way I read your post, it's as if you're saying that the European radical left has a cozy relationship with Islam Karimov. Are you sure that's what you meant to say?

Idiots like Bernie Gunter who said this:
"I wouldn't claim that Iran was as democratic as Switzerland or one of the scandinavian countries, but it's a fair way from being a real dictatorship."

Or Bigdavalad who said this:
"Iran, which held elections last year but is apparently a dictatorship."

You should go and have a lie down, mears...you're talking to yourself again.

Try some largactil.

You've got that wrong, pal but this is the very reason you 'ignore' me.

Karimov was a close friend of DC. Funny how you ignored that.

Funny I also seem to recall how it was various 'leftist' (to borrow some tossy old phrase ;) ) were the ones plastering any flat surface with posters and stickers denouncing Karimov for his crimes.

I think it reveals mears' underlying agenda: he has no intention of discussing anything and is here to wind people up.

This guy is a pussycat compared to the Amnesty Internationals complaints on Israel and America

He imprisons disadents, applies press censorship, restricts freedom to travel, does not allow free politcal elections & represses human rights. Not just my analysis but human rights groups as well.

Just because a dictator has some good PR, it does not make them even less of a dictator..

Other than Bush's poodle Mr Blair, who like his master has developed a liking for Karimov, I cannot think of many Europeans who have declared Uzbekistan "their new best friend" and who shake hands with the bloody dictator.

Can you?

Why don't you do a little research on Uzbek - EU relations, You can just google it. Stuff like this.

"Uzbekistan is the second trading partner of the EU in the region after Kazakhstan. In 2003, the EU imported for € 600 million of goods from Uzbekistan, and exported € 400 million to the country. This is over four times higher than Uzbekistan's trade with the US. Imports from Uzbekistan mainly consisted of agricultural products and textiles, and EU's main export products were machinery and chemical products."

Why is this not brought up? Why all America all the time?

Because the support given by Dubya is political.

Because European leaders don't have a habit of lecturing the world about Evil Dictator A torturing and killing his own people and the need to remove at all costs, while at the same time shaking hands with Evil Dictator B and calling him your new best friend.

Of course, those with short memories fail to remember that only a few years earlier Evil Dictator A was himself a great friend, and all the killing and torturing was conveniently overlooked.

Such exercise of supreme hypocrisy is practically exclusive of successive US governments (though our own Tony is catching up fast).

And that is why it's "all America all the time" mears.

When the EU starts illegally bombing countries on the basis of removing brutal regimes while at the same time making statements about other brutal regimes being great friends and allies, you can come back and complain of unfair focus on the US government.

All America all the time.

The guy is a president for life, who puts political opponents in jail. There is obviously no comparison.

Parade magazine, every year, puts together a list of the top 10 worst dictators in the world. This year's list is as follows:

1. Omar al-Bashir of Sudan. Has killed more than 180,000 civilians in Darfur region, ordering that villages be burned to the ground. He only stopped when the last village was destroyed. He has turned his attention to destroying the refugee camps created by the people displaced by his attacks.
2. Kim Jong-Il of North Korea. North Korea earned worst human rights record for the 34th straight year. Maintains the third largest army in the world, and has an estimated 250,000 people in "reeducation camps." Country is malnurished and is indoctrinated to worship President Kim as a god-like figure.
3. Than Shwe of Burma/Myanmar. Moved the government capitol 250 on a whim and gave everyone two days notice. Leads the world in use of children as soldiers. Still holds 1991 Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi under house arrest. To go near Ms. Aung's home is to risk death.
4. Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe has 80% unemployment, the highest inflation rate in the world, and an AIDS infection rate of more than 20%. Evicted 700,000 people from their homes and businesses "to restore sanity."
5. Islam Karimov of Uzbekistan. Ordered a massacre of an estimated 10,000 people who were wanting the governement to listen to their grievances. The people are forbidden to prosecute him or his family.
6. Hu Jintao of China. The government censors everything, holds an estimated 300,000 people in "reeducation camps." Has forcefully evicted 400,000 people to make room in Bejing for the 2008 olympics.
7. King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia. Monitors all communication in Saudi Arabia. Supresses women according to muslim tradition.
8. Saparmurat Niyazov of Turkmenistan. Critizing his government is considered treason in his country. Built a large gold statue of himself that rotates to face the sun every day. His government by whim has banned car radios, lip-synching and playing recorded music on tv. Fired 15,000 health care workers and replaced them with untrained military conscripts. He has also shut down all rural libraries and national parks.
9. Seyed Ali Khamane'i of Iran. Iran's elected parliment and president is but a sham; the Ayatollah really leads the country, and has veto power over any law the elected government has. His council shut down the free press, and routinely orders the execution of homosexuals.
10. Teodoro Obiang Nguema of Equatorial Guinea. Even though his country is rich in oil, his people live on less than $1 a day. Has deposited $700 million in US banks. He has shut down all book stores and newsstands. He claims he has "direct communication with God."

Dishonorable mentions are as follows:
11. Mummar al-Qaddafi of Libya
12. King Mswati III of Swaziland
13. Isayas Afewerki of Eritrea
14. Aleksandr Lukashenko of Belarus
15. Fidel Castro of Cuba
16. Bashar al-Assad of Syria
17. Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan
18. Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia
19. Boungnang Vorachith of Laos
20. Tran Duc Luong of Vietnam

Well, do you agree with this list?

My overriding thought on seeing this list is that its extremly dangerous to leave data lying around that could be used to give Jimmy Carr anoother evening on the telly  What is the point of ranking psychopaths? Sick bastards that they are, they will probably see it as a competition and is the bahaviour of Dictator #21 so magnanomous as not to warrent attention?

Still trying to deflect attention away from DC's unqualified support of Karimov? It's all on record, pal. You're wrong to claim that EU support for Karimov was on a par with the US - it wasn't. The US supported Uzbekistan militarily and provided Karimov with information on his rivals.

It was the British ambassador tyo Uzbekistan who brought the vile practices of inhumane treatment to light. The US ambassador would never have had the guts.
