I hate getting caught in a (whatever the collective is for cyclists) of Cyclists,
Around here it's known as a CHLOOMBEARBYEARRRRT (pronounced 'clum-ber-baht' of cyclists.

It's amazing how competitive it gets out there!!

When I used to do my twice daily Herne Hill to Camden Time Trial (record 20m14s) there was this amazingly determined nutter on a full touring bike with panniers. The bloke was grimacing so much I used to hear him coming up behind me by the sound of his teeth grinding. He would then fucking nail it with a big 30 seconds out of the saddle. I used to draft him all the way up Kennington Road and wickedly enjoy his indignation when he realised I was there and tried to shake me off.

I still see him some mornings bombing down Brixton Road at about 30mph. Mentalist.

It's not all bad that's true - it can definitely help you get fitter if you push yourself to keep up!
I got a bike to get fit, so for me, there's no point in riding the bike unless you're going as fast as you can for as long as you can (as long as you are safe of course)

I feel much the same way. :) Although I use my bike to get around primarily and also like to stay fit through using it too. Although sometimes if I'm tired I like to take it easier.

Fuck off!

LOL :D :p

What that means is what you might find funny someone else might find really offensive :D

IT wasn't aimed just at you, but some people on this thread are coming across as exactly the kinds of cyclists people on the roads are afraid of. :(

Just like car drivers and their 'barry boys' the cycling world has the same, you think the road belongs to you?

You extrapolate behaviour on the roads from behaviour on this message board? I may be laughing about poor/new/slow cyclists, but rest assured I give them all the space they need and ride appropriately around them.

I love riding with other cyclists, brings out some sort of convoy, wolf pack mentality in me.

That said, when I first started riding as a means of transport I was using the same bike that I'd had since I was 13. It was ridiculously small for me, even with the seat at its highest my toes scraped the ground on each pedal if didn't consciously pull them up. On the second day of riding two glammed up twats in lycra and sperm hats sped in front of me turned around and said "Seat high enough?" laughed at me and sped off. :(
