Tony Blair to convert to Catholicism?

So you don't think that a Catholic Prime Minister would encounter any problems with the Established Church?

I think that there would be some problems but not insurrmountable ones. He could quite properly delegate decisions regarding the appointment of Bishops in the C of E to the Dep Prime Minister or let it be known that he was only acting on the instructions of the Church Commissioners and the Parliamentary representatives of the C of E. There would be ways and means around such conficts far less so than if he had a Catholic/Muslim/Jewish/Hindu monarch as the monarch is the titular head of the c of e.

I never suggested that the problems would be insurmountable. I just think they were sufficient to prevent Blair from converting while still in office.

I don't tthink they would have prevented Bliar from converting I just think that he didn't want to either deal with the aggro and fall out from the 'catholics are the anti christ' mob in the C of E / other proddy groups. If he was a strong enough moral charachter then he might have been able to do it.

A politician has more than his own personal wishes to consider.

Agreed but this would have just passed most people by with a ho hum.

Including people like Ian Paisley and the late Pastor Jack Glass? Me? I don't think so.

Glass was barking mad. Paisley is a hangover from tthe past. Don't think it would have bothered the majority of the people.

Politicians have to think further than just the happiness of the majority.
