I really hate Tom Hanks but I LOVE Big. It's the only Tom Hanks film that doesn't send me to sleep.

Made my cry when he lost Wilson

come on, he may have done some tosh, but he's also been in some great movies:

'the 'burbs', 'turner & hooch', 'dragnet', 'the money pit', 'the man with one red shoe', 'volunteers'...

he's good at screwball, not so keen on him trying to do serious though.

So I have heard. I didn't watch it or Private Ryan because it has Tom Hanks in it. He does not deserve to be in a good film.

That's a bit of an ignorant comment?

I am no 'fan' of Hanks but he is consistent and a 'good' actor (not brilliant just good).

He might be uncool...but then so what?

He has been in some good commercial movies. I voted Toy Story which was a great film with a superb plot, great characters and Hanks who did the voice over for Woody was excellent...

I always judge individual performances on a simple ethos -'Do you see the charater or the actor'? In Toy Story I think of Woody and not Hanks he did a fantastic character creation job through his voice..

open the Metro today and who's starring in the Da Vinci Code film......

Hanksy!

quelle surprise the biggest Hollywood cunt in the biggest cunts book in whats bound to be a cunts film..... :) :p

I might write a book called the DeVito code about some secret society, hidden since the 80s, yet uncovered through scenes from Danny DeVitos movies.

If i sell the film rights i'll insist Tom Hanks plays DeVito.

He'd win an oscar.

saving private ryans good.... but actually Big is better, and I quite liked Castaway (with wilson, who should have been nominated for best supporting really)

I know a lot of people aren't too keen on Saving Private Ryan, for whatever reason - however, you surely gotta admit that that opening 20 odd minutes was awesome filmmaking.

totally agree. Castaway and Green Mile are also both superb.

I liked Big, Joe versus the Volcano, and that Cohen bro film 'The ladykillers'. The rest are shit - especially Forest Gump and Castaway.

Can't believe you missed Bachelor Party off of there.....

As it goes i think he is a wet moron, but clearly he must have some modicum of talent in order to have won as many awards as he has.

Now Steve Guttenberg, thats a different story. The thinking man's Tom Hanks, a towering talent, sadly consigned to cinematic history. :D

Splash

I saw it at the weekend - what a load of old cock!
It made no sense at all
Hanks was at his usual level of crapness.

It's funny actually, if you go back to 1984, Hanks was in 'Bachelor Party' and Guttenberg was in 'Police Academy 1'. A similar playing field, both playing the good guy surrounded by madness.
By 1990 they were still in the same league, Hanks had done 'Big'. 'The 'burbs' and 'Turner & Hooch', whilst Guttenberg had done 'Cocoon', 'Short Circuit' and 'Three Men and a Baby', they were firmly in the family movie zone. Nice work if you can get it.

Its about then that what we call "The Hanks/Guttenberg Inverse Ratio Connundrum" kicks in, as between 1990 and 95, whilst Hanks was making 'Sleepless in Seattle', 'Forrest Gump' and 'Phillidelphia' and racking up the oscars, Guttenberg directed a TV movie and appeared in 'The magical world of Chuck Jones' before making his comeback in Disneys soccer underdog movie 'The Big Green'.
Of course hanks by this time Hanks was also in a Disney movie, the mildly more succesfull 'Toy Story'.

The rest is history.

Don't forget 'PS your cat is dead'.

Hounary Mayor of Pacific Palisades you know. A great man.

Apparently it is the SG version of the play, in which Sal Mineo from 'Rebel without a cause' appeared in before being stabbed to death for no reason in 1976.
