Toast; How do you like yours?

Toast

Thick, white with strawberry jam or peanut butter (note or not and... yuk :( )

Or crusty white doorstep with shitloads of butter.

Sometimes I crave white, sometimes brown.
It should be toasted thoroughly but not burnt.

Sometimes I crave fresh bread hand carved by myself into doorsteps and sometimes I like pre-sliced thick but occasionally I hanker for thin.

Sometimes I like the butter to melt into the hot toast. Sometimes I like the toast to cool so that you can really taste the butter.

Sometimes all I want on it is butter. Other times I like:

Strawberry
Raspberry
Peanut butter

But my favourites are:

Real farmhouse made Lemon curd
Or Damson jam

Why stick to one way of having toast when there are so many nice ways of having it?

If you forced me to pick one though I guess I’d go for:

Fresh bread sliced into doorstops, melted anchor butter with real lemon curd.

Thick sliced white bread, hot and dripping with butter or cooled down a bit with a thin scraping of butter & marmalade.

Freshly baked bread, stuck in the toaster, smothered in butter with lashings of home made apple and blackberry jam, served with a cool glass of milk just before bedtime..........sigh.....

Yo, yo, there's nothing better than toast made with home made bread
I'll even make it my last request, just before I'm dead
I'll slice that loaf up nice and thick with a serrated knife
I'll place them underneath the grill before the end of my life
Spread them with various jams that were left behind for me by my late wife
I'll take a big bite of each one of those slices
Tears roll down my cheeks, a dying smile as I'm filled with niceness
That fruity jam, that crispy hot bread will bring me my final taste of pleasure
Then finally my heart will give way. I'll die. Time for the tape measure.

Lovely, but why wait till you are nearly dead, go bake a loaf and smother it in butter and jam NOW :D

I am genuinely astounded that more people prefer wholemeal to white. I always thought people only ate wholemeal because they had to, because it was better for you than white. I can't imagine, given the choice in a consequence-free theoretical world, that people actually pick wholemeal over white.

I recommend that you have your tastebuds recalibrated. Or chop off your tongue - you don't deserve one!

Each type of bread has its place, I prefer white for some things and wholemeal for others, but still...

I suspect that you have only ever tasted shite quality wholemeal. Decent wholemeal has much more flavour than white. Far more satisfying to the nose and tastebuds with its complex, nutty aromas and subtly sweet malt undertones... especially when toasted. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I've made my own wholemeal. I buy wholemeal loaves from the farmer's market almost every week. I generally only ever eat wholemeal. But I prefer white.

I can't eat that pre-sliced white bread. It makes me heave. :(

So I go for wholemeal or granary which tastes way better in any case!

I can eat baguettes though.

White is for people with a paucity of morals and lack of taste.

The sheer variety of non-white types - wholemeal, granary, seeded, etc - should be ample proof that they're the preference of the genuinely discerning bread connoisseur.

Ducks eat white bread.

Oh aren't we posh

Does one's butler bring one's toast for one?

:p Yeah I am definitely posh -its so inconvenient that at the moment one has an opening for a butler -bringer of toast type person and has to actually make ones own toast and hoummous

This is Urban75 don't forget, not the real world.

I prefer wholemeal for sandwiches, but toast has to be white. In fact, it's scientifically proven that white bread is better for toast. Brown bread gets too dry.

It's a fact that scientists have proven that white bread is better?

So all the people who prefer brown bread, what about them, is their personal preference just a scientific anomaly? A lie? They're just fooling themselves, because the science is the proof yeah?
