To the north...

I didn't like it :( I watched it until 9:45pm and then gave up.

Mostly, it was because of the sound, which is sadly all too common in films these days. I couldn't make out what they were saying half the time, so I was constantly trying to catch up on what was happening.

You should have put subtitles on, like some people did when they were watching The Wire.

:D

I don't know if I just have a particular type of hearing problem or if programme makers just don't care about their audience, but I particularly have a problem when trying to listen to people speak over music/sound effects. Digital audio seems to have coincided with an explosion of this kind of soundtrack and it drives me barmy.

Oh, I thought you meant the accents!

I know what you mean actually. There were some especially difficult moments where they were mumbling or whispering.

Yes, that's another important point. Mumble mumble fucking mumble. No actor knows how to enunciate any more. I blame the lack of theatre training. You wouldn't catch Ian McKellen or BRIAN BLESSED mumbling their way through a film.

...where we do what we want!

Quite rare for me to say this, but what a great job Channel 4 of done of advertising the tv series of Red Riding. I never knew about the books - despite liking David Peace - before the ads were on, there's just something about the menance in the guy who says that line's voice that is really intriguing and promises some heavyweight drama goodness to come.

Every time it's come on, I've found myself getting a bit excited to see it when it's finally out - and they've been doing the ads for ages now - and I'm not generally susceptible to this sort of thing.

I really hope it doesn't turn out to be shit, I'm fairly sure it won't.

Every time he ads come on I find myself a little irritated at the title of the thing making me want to say... "Hood".
