This is a great gathering of the worlds leading thinkers against criminal justice systems:D:cool:

International Conference on Penal abolition

Creating a scandal - prison abolition and the policy agenda
23, 24 & 25 July 2008, Kings College, London

The Howard League for Penal Reform is organising and hosting the above international conference to develop the case for the abolition of prison and to rethink penal policy. The conference will discuss and hear about the impact of the penal system on our communities and provide suggestions for new and alternative approaches. It will look at custody and community interventions as alternatives to imprisonment; prisons and the politics of poverty; the role of the media and public opinion; and the role of privatisation and capitalism in penal policy today.
Nowhere in the above is anything mentioned about 'No crime'.
No crime = no police surely?
I don't think you read your own posts.

(and Hey! Wacko thread title... :D )

Why don't you go, then you can tell us all about it?

My Mrs and kid can be demanding, so can my finances and 'diary'. But if I believe in something to post a heads up on the web for something THATS IN 5 MONTHS TIME, i reckon I could clear it with the wife/kids/diary.

Why post it if you've got no intention to go?

I am not going to spoon feed you anything. I really want to go, I have already said that. However, I have a busy diary, kids, and financial constraints. It's not that hard to understand.

If there are no laws then there can be no breaking of laws!

Exactly, if you think about it logically. However I doubt the theoretical principal of the removal of all laws could be done logically, far too simplistic.

And regardless of the obvious "remove all laws = no crimes commited" analagy, humans now have an inate knowledge of what constitutes a crime basically by their own human existence, regardless of whether it was technically not a crime in a criminal justice system.

So the theory is PIE IN THE SKY!!

IMO

You would be funny if you weren't so sad.

Not really sure how the above response adds to the discussion, and i may have said that theory was "a load of bollox" and "pie in the sky" but I don't remember saying anything to deserve being called sad.

Or does my mere disagreement with what is being said by you cause you to react this way?

abolish prison?

so I could go and rape and kill a load of people but as long as I say sorry and do some community work it will be OK?

I was referring to your 'inate knowledge' rubbish, and that was what it was. Complete and unadulterated garbage. Theoretical and empirical unproven crap.

See this is a good example of why i don't much bother with the P&P forums..........

no one actually answers the questions, it's just name calling and self righteous oneupmanship..
