TK maxx or Primark?

I found a beautiful white summer skirt yesterday, and a white top to go with it, all for £30, the skirt if good quality, and it's lined.
Some of their stuff is shite, reminds me of Wal Mart, but sometimes they have some really good bargains.

Walking through the estate last night there was a sulky knot of about 10 teenage boys...as I passed them they were discussing the relative merits of white t-shirts from Primark and Hennes....Primark appeared to be the front runner.....

Ooh, jammy.. which handbag was it?

I saw an Anna Scholtz (not sure that's spelt right) t-shirt in TKMaxx in Bristol the other week - they retail at £75 in other shops.
aching to tell someone, thanks.

tis a medim sized bucket-shaped tote, kind of laminated fabric in pale turquoise with a fifties style print of coloured patches with offset black line drawings of vintage ladies' clothes, boots and accessories. trim is white patent, with gold "kelly bag" style clasp on horizontal white strap at top of front.

£80 originally.

(suitcase reduced from £120!)

I also bought for a friend of my sister a Lulu Guinness baby changing bag (pale blue with multi coloured diamonds and matching change mat) - and that was reduced from £120 to £40...

this was all last week, btw - might be worth a shot...

Lidls occasionally have sewing machines for well uinder £50. It might be worth waiting for that. Or try freecycle? I get lovely fabrics at car boots and charity shops. I've got 3 metres of beautiful cotton in a wicked 50's print that I got for 50p waiting to be made into something for the summer. Keep your eyes peeled and ask others to look out for it as well.
thanks madzone - I really do want to go for it, but the outlay and my complete lack of knowledge put me off :o

I'll have a look on ebay too.

You can pick up sewing machines for 50 quid second hand as long as you dont mind an old one.

I have one I bought for college it's about the same age as my Mum though and really fuckin heavy but it works alright :D

I'd start out with Hennes rather than the other two. The Cvt Gdn store seems a little less hectic than the Oxford St one.

Enjoy your hols..

I'm a small size so will Primark fit?
Doubt it - if the girls sizes are done the same way as the blokes.

Primark seem to like making people feel they're about 12 sizes smaller than they really are.

I've bought a few things there - well cheap and surprisingly good quality - but fuck me, the sizes piss me off. I've been about a 31 inch waist since I was 16, so it's curious how I need to wear a belt with the 28inch combats I bought at Primark...... Same with other pants I've bought there, and their "small" size T-shirts are what the rest of world calls "medium".

Don't believe the sizes for a second, but apart from that, Primark rocks.

Good suggestion... I hate making decisions!

I hope they stock size 6 n 8 then... Gap is like this. their sizes are always so small.

might have to go to Tk maxx instead now.

Hennes is ace. Cheap but well made clothes. Primark is cheap but you get what you pay for.

I have to be in a seriously shoppy mood to deal with TK Maxx, it's almost as bad as the shoe section in New Look.

My husband would tell me I had enough Lulu bags already.

He's prolly right.

:D

Primark is ace.

I used to get clothes and the like from TK Maxx but these days I get most my stuff from Primark (apart from trainers where I have to get 'branded'). Years back I was a real label junkie but these days I'd rather spend £15 on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt and spend the £80 saving on something more fun.

I wanna go shopping on saturday before I go on holiday... a few tops n dresses for the sun... I have a choice to make: Do I go to TK Maxx or Primark? what would you reccommend?

Haven't you got Peacocks round your way ?

Peacocks is cool! So is QS i got a wicked stripey dress from there with a slightly puff ball-ness to it!

I'd rated primark over tk maxx tho cos they have loadsa cheap plain stuff with you can customise.. Altho saying that for shoes TK is wicked!

I'm not sure, but I think they only do two fairtrade lines. I read something about their holding group not signing some agreement somewhere.

Hmm, interesting, was all over the papers a while back saying they were now fairtrade only, with big ol' Philip Green schmoozing about it.

mmmm Which one?

It's gotta be Primark* to be honest(i might change back to my old custom tag after seeing this thread! ;) ), although i do like TKMaxx for the shoes, trainers and some of the mens clothings. I bought a pair of of Loose fit denim jeans (i'm wearing it now), with back pockets at the Primark store in Brum two weeks ago for a bargain tenna!!

*Most of my sisters go to Primark and they love it!

I don't see how the two can be compared ? Primark is it's own brand whereas TK Maxx sells brand labels at knock-down prices. Why compare ?

For the record , TK Maxx all the way...

ck... it's cos they are both cheap... i've never been to either in the UK. I used to be seen fairly regularly at T.J maxx in the states a couple of years ago.

am in agreement with you ck (i.e. they're different types of shop), although i think there's a time and place for both. wouldn't rate one over the other tbh.

also, primark is much cheaper.

reNnie -- why don't you try New Look in Brixton -- I get most of my summer t-shirts from there.

I shall... but every time I go there I can only find stuff in size 14 n above. maybe i'm just unlucky.

TK Maxx is variable... some days you go there and it's full of utter shite, and other days there's loads of cool stuff. I think you know which day it is after about 5 mins, in which case you can give up then if there's nothing it sight.
