And not to forget the Small Faces doing you need lovin (Willie Dixon number) thier updated version that later got stolen by Page and Plant for Zepplins Whole Lot Of Love...

Willie Dixon's original was brilliant. But what Plant nicked wholesale was Marriott's reading of it. The phrasing, the ornamentation, the vocal styling that Plant used was all Marriott.

I was playing Ogden's Nut Gone Flake a lot at the time of my first born. I associate it with a lot of intense (and usually good) emotion of that period. Afterglow especially.

Marriott at his best in my opinion in Im Only Dreaming , Afterglow , Every little bit hurts ..the best soul singer we have ever had in this country , the Kinks are in a completely different catagory and shouldnt be compared to The Small Faces , The Kinks had some good British Lyrics but I really cannot imagine Ray Davies attempting to sing Every Little Bit Hurts ...

The Marriott memorial concert a few years back at the Astoria / mean fiddler was one of the most emotional but brilliant music evenings of my life .. a great tribute to the man.
