Time to get mobile Laptop Help Needed

It’s interesting you say not to get warranty what do you suggest to guard against damage/loss/theft etc.??

Insurance + the manufacturers warrenty should cover defects. There's usually little point getting a third-party warrenty, unless you wish to line the pockets of a salesperson.

Also most of the extended "PC world style" warranties don't cover damage or loss, which makes them pretty useless since those are the main way to kill a laptop. For damage i use house insurance and i just try not to lose the damned thing for the rest.

So what do I do about insuring it against loss or theft.

Geeks at work say buying a vaio is throwing money down the drain. :(

Is the dual core thing a unique selling point?

Nope, all the ones i listed were dual core.

The reason they say that vaios are money down the drain is that they have the same parts as much cheaper laptops, but in a shinier case and the sony branding.

Well, yes. And Sony's superb screens and attention to detail too. I've seen some shockingly built cheap laptops.

Right I've decided on a SZ1xp (would like the VP but it's too much fuckin money for a laptop it really is! )

http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?quicklinx=404J&fb=417&InMerch=1

The cheapest I found it for down TCR was £1499 from the sony shop one of the other independents would give me £1485 but I reckon it's best off getting it from a main dealer right?

Can anyone find it cheaper online? (Dabs is 1474 but then they charge you delivery)

I've had a look but cant find it :(

Any help mucho appreciated :)

Also, do you reckon I can blag any accessories?

Thanks ed

Anyone eved used CConline for stuff they have it pretty cheap too. :)

Are the blokes down TCR kosher for buying stuff from?

The ones with shops are but the computer fairs aren't. Personally, I'd rather go with Dabs as I've dealt with them before. Slightly bit more expensive but I've always found them more reliable.

If its a first time buying a laptop I'd personally go with TCR. At least then you can test the laptop you're bought in the shop. (A friend once bought a (Sony) from a shop in TCR and tried it out immediately in front of the sales guy. It didn't work and was given a replacement no-questions asked, straight-away...)

I've found Dabs customer services an absoulte nightmare when I have had problem, sitting for hours wating to speak to someone, only to be transfered to another person. I only thing I can say in their favor is they are not as bad as overclockers.

I've used e-buyer quite a few times, but never a had a problem and that is when the real test of customer service kicks in.

Hmm... a clash of opinions then. :)

I'm just really dubious about spending so much money in one of these little shack shops LOL :D

They look like they wont be there for five minutes, :( do you reckon the actual Sony shop will pricematch?

This is why I suggest taking the laptop out of the box and switching it on in the shop. I doubt that the Sony Store will price match. (But no harm in asking)

CCL Computers have it for £1444.47 plus about £6 carriage. Next day delivery is standard. I've used them for years and never had a problem. Link here

They also throw in a 3G Vodaphone card, whatever that might be, supposedly worth £199
