Tim Cook: Apple CEO comes out as gay

but because people do still have to, it's a good thing when people do, and the more people do, the less people will have to in future

This I can't believe that every time someone high profile comes out - progressives say it's not a good thing.

No the situation that leads to people "coming out" in the first place is not a good thing - but I don't think the OP was claiming that. This is a good thing - especially given the global situation and the position of Apple as a global brand.

If he hadn't been hiding his sexuality in the first place it wouldn't have been such big news. Big boss has been less than truthful i

It really shouldn't be such a big deal now, but judging but the publicity for Tim Cook it unfortunately it still is

I think most publically gay people are in the media or entertainment industries, so I think it is significant an openly gay man is in charge of one of the largest technology companies in the world.

It's not a good thing. No one should have to "come out".

God you are so right. This has really chimed with me today. Not sure why really but I cant imagine what it must feel like to have 'coming out' in your life. I imagine it can be a beautiful time for some but for others it must be painful and tortuous. To think that this is in the world today makes me wonder what our priorities are all about.

An iPhone statue and memorial to late Apple Inc. founder Steve Jobs has been dismantled in Russia after his successor, Tim Cook, came out publicly as gay. The 74-inch interactive monument was erected at a St. Petersburg technical university, according to a Reuters report. The statue was dismantled and removed by the company Western European Financial Union, or ZEFS, which erected it last year.

The giant iPhone was made out of glass and metal, and displayed biographical details about Jobs’ life at the State University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics in St. Petersburg. It also acted as a wi-fi hotspot and could withstand sub-zero temperatures, according to ZEFS.

 Has everyone on this planet lost their ability to reason?

I don't think he was hiding it, he just wasn't shouting it from the rooftops. By most accounts he was quite open about it with people he knew, but there is a difference between that and placing it in the public domain in explicit terms. Anyway it was clearly a semi-open secret long before now, because some chump on a business news station accidentally outed him months ago, clearly didn't realise he wasn't out at the time.

I'm no fan of CEO's so I can't exactly go overboard with praise here, but at least he came out because he likes to make speeches about certain rights he thinks people should have, rather than having been forced out due to the vulgarities of the press.

No fan of CEOs and no fan of Apple either. Something of the Abercrombie & Fitch about both Apple the company and their CEOs.
