Couldn't disagree more really, either about Tim or Jeff.

Sadly missed, both of them.

Of course, I quite appreciate that those who listen to the utter shite that passes as music nowadays wont agree with me, however, time will tell, we'll see whose work is still available in the shops in a decade or two.

blah blah blah in my day it were all fields.

Actually, half the reason i don't like Tim Buckley is that he's in no way as talented or moving as, for example, Van Morrison. So it's got naff all to do with contemporaneity or such.

Now, having listened to Tim Buckley, I feel that, without his modern proteges, or the fact that his influences are not innovative, you can't say he's a bad musician without a good voice. The Meat Loaf comment made me laugh, however.

I am beginning to suspect I have terrible taste in music :(

I actually deleted his album from my computer, I thought it was that uninventive. I still have a backup, mind.

Tim Buckley: 'No Man Can Find The War' said:
Photographs of guns and flame
Scarlet skull and distant game
Bayonet and jungle grin
Nightmares dreamed by bleeding men
Lookouts tremble on the shore
But no man can find the war

Tape recorders echo scream
Orders fly like bullet stream
Drums and cannons laugh aloud
Whistles come from ashen shroud
Leaders damn the world and roar
But no man can find the war

Is the war across the sea?
Is the war behind the sky?
Have you each and all gone blind:
Is the war inside your mind?

Humans weep at human death
All the talkers lose their breath
Movies paint a chaos tale
Singers see and poets wail
All the world knows the score
But no man can find the war
If only you could hear him sing it. He's a fucking God. The defence rests.

Not sure I particularly like that song. Not saying its not good, but its too mental to say.

He does have a good voice though, imo.

:)

Song To The Siren is a classic tune, covered magnificently by This Mortal Coil. His voice is an acquired taste, but I think his songwriting skills aren't in doubt.

no way is she he shit

In my heart is where I long for you
In my smile I search for you
Each time you turn and run away I cry inside
My silly way, just too young to know any more

In my world the devil dances and dares
To leave my soul just anywhere,
Until I find peace in this world
Ill sing a song everywhere I can
Just too young to know any more

The wind covers me cold
The starry skies all around my eyes
Far behind the city moans
Well worthy of the people there
Oh, the psalms they love to hear

So let me sing a song for you
Just to help your day along
Let me sing a song for you
One Ive known so very long
Oh, please could you find the time.

He didn't write the words to that, Larry Beckett did, and the words are the best bit. And it's debatable whether what Liz Fraser is singing is actually the tune as such.

Tim Buckley did Song to The Siren on The Monkees, apparently.

Wow, live version of This Mortal Coil doing the song on YouTube:

Edit: The Tim Buckley on the Monkees is on there as well...
