Thurs 5th Nov: Brockwell Park fireworks meet

I enjoyed the fireworks, the lack of searching, the lack of crowds and the presence of sparklers.

There were sparklers everywhere and folks were wandering about slurping lager with gay abandon. We had hot toddy. The fireworks were ace.

Pleased to see the sparklers but needed a bonfire really - cos, you know Lambeth, it's called BONFIRE night.

Totally mobbed around the Herne Hill entrance. Lovely to hear the kids making those oooohs and ahhhhs.

Is that true? Can't see any reference to that on the site...

They can't frisk people entering a park can they?

I was hassled by some "crowd control" wanker who told me to put my hood down. I obliged at first for peace sake, walked a few steps onward and put it straight up again. He then came back with a couple of his buddys and ordered them lol, to confiscate the near empty beer can out of my hand. Even the old bill laughed when I told him he was a jobsworth cunt. :D

Smacking it to the man then :D

I liked it a lot last night and saw not a hint of bovver from the yoof.

I got there late and there were huge queues at the Herne Hill entrance, so I watched them from Dulwich Road. Top display - really enjoyed it.

it was a really light crowd up by the footy pitches at the top of the hill. we were wondering where everyone was.

Bottle neck at herne hill entrance was crap... finally got in, felt ill, left, watched them from dulwich road.... shit night :(

They closed off some of the Dulwich Road entrances which meant lots of later arrivers couldn't get into the park. And then for some reason, closed off connecting gate that goes from the lido entrance round to the back right hand side fields, below the cinder pitch. Which left lots of people trying in vain to clamber over the fence.

Pretty fireworks, but was there some cheap job lot of red & green gunpowder?!

If they put the ruddy bonfire back and started it earlier - and perhaps added a bar - they'd get far more people in earlier and cut back on the crush.

At HH, people - mainly families - were getting into the park and just stopping so those behind had no where to go. I thought it was more an issue of stewarding, or non-stewarding; had they managed the crowd it would have been fine. Needed more stewards, tbf. And leadership.

I loved it - our greek friend got to try toffee apples for the first time too and she approved. Also, when she learnt about bonfire night at college she was given the incorrect info that Guy Fawkes got away with it and she thought it was very radical that we went out every year to celebrate parliament getting blown up :D
