Probably the old technique of letting it rot and become an eyesore so that the neighbours are less likely to object when planning permission is sought to turn it into a dozen studio flats.

Prepare yourself for a shock. The whole block is coming down, including the 1920s hotel round the other side and the Odeon West End. Planning permission has been granted and an attempt to list the Odeon was refused. The only possible chance is for someone to write to Radisson Edwardian hotels CEO and simply persuade him to do a facade retention for the cinema. Radisson Edwardian group bought the whole block - cinema, hotel, apartments next to cinema and pub. All given green light for destruction.
