Threads, Plague Dogs and films that fucked you up as a kid

Do you think Snitter and Rowf made it in the end? I like to think they swam to the island ( I guess it would have been the Isle of Man ) and survived .

in the book they get rescued by a good 'master' in a boat

I hate the bit where (snitter?) accidentally blows the chaps head off.

Saw it when I was around 14, ace, picked it up on vid in a cheapo shop for a quid or so fairly recently.

you're remembering the final scene of the film

probably inspired by this goya painting

Goya-Dog.gif

entitled the dog

it depicts a drowining dog (I think as a metaphor for depression) :(

for me the book and the film were about experience of trauma and how it affects subsequent experiences

snitter had been loved and so expects to be loved when he escapes

rowf experienced cruelty and so expects all people to be cruel, he even thinks that water in the sea is terrifying because of his experiences in the tank

good to see so many mentions for Children Of The Stones.. absolutely astonishing programme. not sure it fucked me up as such - i was probably a bit older - but it was certainly brilliantly made and fucking creepy.

Quite spooky. Guy I used to live with had the same ordeal, living next to some nuclear subs in Devon. it aint all that long ago either. Within my young life time.

As a member of Trident Ploughshares Plymouth group, and having been born in Devonport (where the dockyard is) I can certainly sympathise with your mate.

I saw 'When The Wind Blows' when I was at school, and it affected me a lot.

Before I saw 'Threads', I thought the bleakest and most fucked up film I'd ever seen was '1984' starring John Hurt and Richard Burton (I'm an Orwell nut, you see).

It seems positively tame compared to 'Threads'.
