You're not really getting this, are you?

Aqua has stored this chicken at room temperature since 6pm. Pathogens love those conditions!

Six pm this evening??!!!

What the hell is everyone worried about: what time is it: 11:00 pm?

Reeeee-wind that first post...

"So, this *egg* fried rice with *chicken* in it, that's been sat *unrefridgerated* in my kitchen now for *over four hours* - is it still okay to eat?"

Lush! (you nutter) :D

I would never had had a problem with it had moose not had a fit at me the last time I did it

your all horrid people that leave me hungry :(

oh god! pathogens. Ooops - they sound bad. But one of the great joys in life is eating last night's takeaway (cold or nuked) for brekkie. Never ill, me - or once from a prawn sandwich I bought I Debden, essex. I lost a stone and a half in a week - it was great!

Blimey. One minute it's all "I've got this salvia and I've stuck ten vallies up my arse, how much K should I take at the same time" and next it's "oooooh rice".

*shakes head*

Quite. Reheating a bit of rice is somewhat less dangerous than the antics quoted in the drugs forum. Why some of them are still alive and/or outside of a mental institution amazes me.

I've never said the first part of that sentence

it didnt have the word vodka in it :D

Oi! Don't blame me! The amount of alcohol in your stomach at any hour of the day would kill any germs stone dead. :p

I'm only squeamish about reheated rice because my sister once spent 6 weeks in an isolation ward and they said it was down to bacteria poisoning from rice.

Basildon Council have a special section on chinese food, and particularly mention rice kept at room temperature for more than 2 hours, on page 3.

you know what - i wasmuch better off before i read this thread :o

scary

i am of the opinion i ate mud as a child thereofore my immune system is ok. but then i have a habit of breaking myself badly - but never my immune system - yet!

i shall continue to eat cold rice

exactly! I was happy in my world of eating left over chinese food before that moose woman started on me  :D

aqua right well I've thrown it away

Good! :)

My experience with rice was pretty nasty. Not just bacillus cereus you have to worry about, rice is apparently also a major source for the nastier forms of e-coli. For me, that meant @9 agonising weeks in & out of hospital (I've posted the gory details elsewhere here before  ) then @18 months of mostly feeling shit, sick & weakened as the secondary toxins left in my system kept coming back to hit me.

Not worth it at all. :(

what a load of crap! I've eaten loads and loads and loads of reheated rice - never had a problem....you lot are all scaredy cats.

Don't know about you, tobyjug, but IMO urban is a pure dead mental institution! :D

PS. The asksam link in Mrs Magpie's post (#3 of thread?), provided the definitive answer to the rice question. It even tells you why reheating old rice doesn't make it safe! Yet here we are at #88!

*shakes head*

I've had campylobctor from chicken before, also been hospitalised for a fortnight with salmonella - severe, to the edge of kidney falure but this was undoubtedly the worst food poisonong I've ever suffered, by a very long way considering just how cheap & easy it is to make-up fresh rice, reheating is just plain daft.
