This is how music criticism ought to be done

Guidelines?

If it's a shit joke, I'll call it.

This was the case here. It's quite straightforward.

Oh, you're one of them.

Tell us a joke Diamond, gwan. Also, let me know who your favourite comedian is. It would be interesting to see if I find both the OP and that joke funny, or one and not the other etc etc.

Them?

What, a person with an opinion that differs from yours?

They must be the bane of your life.

Wait, this isn't about the joke at all is it, you're a music journalist aren't you? But a modern one, who basically sticks PR bumpf to pictures of Lily Allen and thinks they're fucking Tommy Udo and doesn't understand why your magazine sells fuck all copies these days.

I'm torn.

On the one side it's making fun of the personal tradegy of a hot babe.

On the other hand she sang folk.

P.S. It is possible to appreciate black humour and still be human and feel sorry for her and her family.

Rumbled! :eek::eek::eek:

Tell me Diamond, I would not want to fall foul of your comedy rules should I ever decide to attempt to be funny around here, could you advise as to the current guidelines re: style, taste, and social worthiness?

I'll tell you what, let's wait til someone close to you dies, preferably in a rather horrific freak incident, and we'll start a thread on it with a 'humourous' twist, and then you can decide.

Are you related to the unfortunate coyote fodder folker, then?

Are you related to the poor woman? I can understand your hurt then, because it is cruel. Sorry for your loss by the way.

Sorry, but where exactly in the list of Urban users are close friends of relatives of the recently eaten deceased?

Nice to see the arbiters of morality are out and about today to point out the wickedness of our ways.

You wouldn't be saying that if wolves had just eaten your mum tho, would you now? Eh eh eh???!!

Actually, I'm going to strike out and suggest that parjo isn't related to the victim, as s/he mostly posts on British football threads and has never mentioned canada ever. I suspect in fact they are just the sort of person that thinks that anything that might upset anyone be banned. Except when the banning upsets people, because people who get upset when things are banned or censored are twats, obv.

Dull moralising finger wagging bastards. Jesus christ, when i don't find something funny or when i find something offensive i either keep my mouth shut, walk away, or try and explain why i find it so. I might, in this case have said that as an animal lover i think it's offensive because the coyote was shot. I might have said "don't laugh, my brother / cousin / friend died that way", or explained to the OP that music journalism is actually better these days and thus the attempt at a comparison is pretty weak, perhaps citing the pass rate on my BA Media Studies degrees and the lack of jobs in the field meaning that obviously only the best are doing it etc etc.

I'd hate to live in a world where I got offended everytime someone didn't act all pious in response to everything. you'd have to have every book or movie or song vetted by a friend in case there was something in it that might upset you, you'd be constantly having to point out to passers by that they might offend someone, you'd never be able to go to a pub or social gathering with people in case someone said something tasteless that ruined your day. and the only comedy show you could ever watch is Last Of The Summer Wine.

It's more the banality that gets me.

This thread, urban 75, or life in general?

Although if this death can be said to be anything, it can't be banal. Eaten by coyotes. Fuck you Hendrix, twat off Hutchence, eaten by coyotes is rock n roll death. Even johnny cash only got kicked by an ostrich. Her memory will live on. Unlike this thread, unless bluestreak can come and offend a load of dullards within the next 24 hours.

Funniest bit of the thread.

How's your blood pressure?

I was calmed happily at the end by the Last Of The Summer Wine. It's hard to remain angry with an image of three old men sliding down a hill in a bath towards a pond looming in my head. It's so calming. RIP Compo, let no man sully your name with humour.

Obviously? I can't remember the last time I read a piece of music journalism I didn't think was an utter waste of my time. And if you really think 'only the best are doing it' I suggest you pick up a copy of Mixmag and rapidly disabuse yourself of that notion. High academic results and a low number of positions does not mean that only the best get those positions, as a quick look at any other field bar athletic acheivement can show you.

Malcolm eggs you fucking prick, for someone who finds it such a crime to be offended by something, you seem pretty fucking offended by anyone who has the temerity to say they don't actually find this thread funny.

Oh and of course saying you don't find something funny makes you a "dull moralising finger wagging bastard". Whereas banging on about your shitpot degree in media studies and the success rates vis a vis employment opportunities puts you right at the heart of cutting edge satire.
