This is how I feel about fruit

I do, and a majority of oranges of them are from Spain ;)

We used to get a lot from SA and Israel too IIRC - I haven't really bought much fruit since I left home about 18 years ago, so my knowledge is out of date, but I go into to the habit of checking the country of origin when shopping with my mum as a kid - anything from Israel or SA was a no-no. I can't remember where else but there were quite a few.

Anyway all this fuss over fruit, when all you need is a smoothie - no bother with pith and stickiness there

I don't know if anyone is a plant genetic scientist in here but I think Monsanto should get to work crossing the mango with the avocardo.

I'll explain. Mangos are tasty, very tasty, but are difficult because of the pip. If you could design the pip to be like a avocado one which pops out nicely of the fully ripe fruit I think you'd have the perfect fruit. (I'm not advocating some changing the mango's taste, just convenience)

I'm not at all convinced on the mango front.

They're lush when dried, or in those packs of ready-to-eat fruits chunks, but as an item of fresh fruit in isolation, I fear they're a wolf in sheep's clothing.

I bought a couple of fresh mangos once, cos they were on special offer at Tesco. They started off disturbingly hard, so I left them for a while to properly ripen. When they were yielding sufficiently to the touch for one to justifiably conclude that appropriate ripeness had been reached, I set about the choicest looking of the pair, and to be honest, it was a bit rank. Not at all like the nice pre-packed stuff.

Perhaps I'm being overly harsh to the humble mango - in my experience, it's hard to find a fruit that doesn't improve immeasurably after a healthy dose of processing in a big factory.

I'd swap green apples with bananas but apart from that, a decent graph. As Attica would say 'well done, keep em coming'

Finally found some oranges that are edible. The guy who has a fruit stall at the Southwark end of Blackfriars bridge is selling the most beautiful spanish navel oranges I've ever tasted.

He thought I was quite mad when I bought 10 of them on Friday :o I shall be going back tomorrow for a restock.
