Thinking about getting a dog

Yeah, I'd agree with much of that. Dogs can show dominant behaviour, (auch as ear biting/laying their head over you and pressing down) and some dogs are more dominant than others. But they do want to please you. And they certainly do love you, and miss you when you're not there.

Yep, and I didn't like the effect that the idea that Cosmo is trying to dominate had on me. I started thinking 'don't you bloody try to dominate *me*' when she was actually just being a dog in a way I hadn't understood.

I used to get like that with Tyler, I think I had it in my head (like many of us) that dogs will try and dominate, coupled with the fact that this is the first staffy type dog I've had. His reactions told me I was wrong, I'd bolt upright and tower over him in a dominant way, and he'd look at me as if to say "dude, chill the fuck out" and carry on eating my fingers.
