Things you have to do to pet proof

Alfie is generally very well behaved, but when I was on holiday last September he chewed through the satellite cable out of boredom, leaving me without telly for a few days.

Headphones already get stashed in a drawer/my bag due to the cat's love of nomming them. Since adopted dog arrived today have also discovered bike tyres/glasses of red wine/skanky snot rags are also a thing  :D

Wallets have now been added to this list

I got new carpets in my hall and stairs partly because the cats had scratched the old ones horribly, and they looked really tatty and yukky.

I bought loads of scratching pads and scratching mats to try and stop the cats from scratching the new carpet, but it is not working.

Additionally, I got a new sofa recently, not just because the cats had torn the old ones to pieces. I have decided that the cats are not allowed in there unless I am there to shout at them when they start scratching it. But this means that the bastards have dug up the carpet in the corner by the door to the sitting room.

Bastard cats.

More cutely, one of my cats fetches things, including from my bedroom, and brings them downstairs. She takes things out of my bin and brings them down, but she also, recently, has been dragging around a bottle of cough medicine still in its box - I keep finding it on the landing, because she can't get it downstairs, presumably.

I am always finding odd things at the bottom of the stairs - nail files, empty pill strips, dirty socks....

A while back, she got a tampon from a box in the bathroom (before the lodger learnt of the need to hide these away!), took it out of its wrapper and took it downstairs to play with it. I didn't even bother telling her off for that one, because I thought it was quite sweet, in way.

Oh yeah, and one of them jumps up on the kitchen surface where the cat food is, and paws at it. Sometimes, she manages to knock it onto the floor. At the moment, the bag has got cat scratches in it.

This never happens when I am nearby, so I don't even know which cat it is. I have my suspicions, though.
