Things you can't seem to find in the shops

Mittens on string

You can find these in mothercare but I don't think they will have them in your size. Most adults are expected to be able to look after their mittens.

Can you knit?

I don't think they'll work with open toe shoes and a short skirt cos they're too thick.

I don't wanna sew I want ready made stuff Biddly :D

</lazy>

Why not just get big socks and have warm toes? :)

Edit: Ignore me - I didn't read the bit about dance ones being too thick. Can't think why anyone would make any thinner ones, though - they are supposed to be warm :D

I've not had this lately, but there have been times when because a certain item I want is not (or is the opposite of) what's in fashion, no one stocks it at all. I'm sure this problem has become worse in the last ten years.

A few years ago I wanted a long summer dress - but short dresses were in, so no one stocked any. Similarly, I wanted a mid-length dark denim skirt, but as cut-off mini washed out denim skirts were in it took me for-bloody-ever to find one that wasn't.

legwarmers aren't trousers so I dunno how you can compare them to ski-pants?

These are legwarmers with stirrups only they're dance ones.

I'm trying to imagine what a thinner version of these would look like with high heels.

*shudders*

80's clothes were fucking awful, why anyone wants to re-enact that look is beyond me.

There was a girl on the station last week in electric blue tights and pink legwarmers. She looked downright stoopit.

I felt like saying to her "I was your age when they were popular the first time round, you know.. and it was wrong then!"

We do mittens on a string at our place, zenie.

£24 for mittens though!!

But I get 75% discount. :D

They're a bit shit though, christmassy looking.

I'll pm you a pic if you want. I'm not posting it, I don't want everyone knowing where I work, they'll all want a pair.

They are nice aren't they Biddly, I think I'd be scared to go into Prada though, the girls would know I was an imposter!!:o

I'm with BiddlyBee, fuck 'em. I've gone into those kinds of shops before, no one was anything short of polite.

I went into Tommy Hilfiger in Bombay, after travelling for 5 weeks I was pretty messy but they didn't bat an eyelid. :)

mittens on strings, if someone hauls on one of 'em do you punch yourself in the gob with the other ?

Just get normal mittens and thread a bit of cord through them! No sewing required - just poke the cord through a hole in the knitting and tie it back on itself!

NB I have mittens on a string and they're actually a bit of a pain. Partly because if you don't want to wear gloves that day, or you want to wear a different coat, or different gloves, you have to unthread them from the sleeves. And then they flap around when you're not wearing them.

I saw those socks as well zenie - they're very cool, but I didn't realise they had no toes on them! I think M & S are doing 2 tone ones as well but with complete feet.

Slightly off topic. Just listening to Radio 1 and there was mention of this site:

http://www.zwiplus.co.uk/

As a place to get plus size clobber especially jeans. I struggle to find them myself and all my pairs of jeans don't fit me at all well. The thing is that site is rubbish looking and the photos are frankly scary.

Cool! I remembered pixie-iso once posting that you could get any kind of hosiery you could imagine at Tabio, so thought it was worth a look.

A tank top - a bog standard old school knitted tank top - not one with a shirt sewn into it  :(

I think I might have to find a pattern and knit one myself!

yes biddly, ive been tryng to find one that i can wear over long sleeve tops, ive got one(a nice cap sleeved affair) but i want a pain one but cant seem to find anything suitable

Have you looked in places like Tesco or Sainsbury's? I got some tank-top type things in Sainsbury's a few months ago. :)
