Things to do in Wimbledon and on Wimbledon Common?

NO ANDY! pubs located on the common are much better. AHdn in and and Crooked Billet every time.

Look I was born & bred in Raynes Park & spent my youth drinking in the pubs of Wimbledon (spent a lot of my childhood putside the billet or hand with a bottle of coke & bag of crisps). If you want a proper pub the Brewery Tap is better. I find the ales are better kept. BUT as the OP has kids in tow I would agree with you & go for the Hand as it has a family room.:)

Innit, I only really ever go to the Hand in Hand becasue the food is superior as are the drniks, although the crooked billet comes a close second becasue they have some amazing imported german beers!.

you are right about awful new "trendy bars" that are just full of twats. The Dog and Fox has been renovated and now looks like a pile of cow dung (not that it was any good before) Then there's the common room, which is souless and shite, and there is another one on the corner that I cant remember the name of that has some awful chandeleirs and about 300 different types of wallpaper. The swan on the ridgeway is OK, but I'd stil rather drink in the cavern.

Wimbledon's a bit poo for drinks really.

WE went to the fox and grapes (that's the one further up the common isn't it? and old barn conversion) It was ok but the only time we've ever managed to get a seat was on a tuesday afternnon when we had taken some holiday. At the weekends we hjave always had to wait outside to be seated - which I personally can't stand.

Not shore where the Brewery tap is, but I'll have a look next time.

The OP has not even mentioned going to the pub, I want to go for a walk.

The common can only be about a mile from the station as it is only a 10-15 minute walk, I would never bother with a bus for anything under a half hour walk. You are a lazy lot.

And you are a strange lot, not being prepared to walk around South Norwood Lakes or South Norwood Country Parks! :D

It's not that I'm not prepared to walk around there, as I said before I want a long walk in somewhere a bit bigger and more remote. If Lloyd park is too small then south norwood lakes are not going to be big enough. Or am I looking at the map wrong?

Wimbledon Common is not actually remote, but South Norwood Country Park is brilliant (and is on a tram route), and South Norwood Lakes is great for a walk, too, and both of them are in the London Borough in which you live and which you should be supporting, because, unless we support open spaces in London, we lose them.

Innit :)

Besides, how do you know how big they are until you visit?

Oh okay. So if you're south/Croydon way, why not look at the routes into Surrey or Kent from East Croydon Station - it's all there (days out, walks, sights), just research for half an hour on the net and organise. It's all only 15-20 mins. away.

I have looked on a map.

I think I might just go to Richmond park.

Ok I took your advice. It small but was a nice jaunt, no need for trams either. I wish I was a kid, there was loads of places for grubby kids to play.

OMG! That's a scary coincidence! Me and Callie were at that exact same place in the 3rd photo (overlooking the pond) on Saturday afternoon!!

Tufted Ducks, Coots and BlameKanadah! Geese in abundance. And some other birds which we think were Shelducks.

And dogs were reasonably abundant too  I got to use my favourite joke too, as there was someone else's dog walking along beside us when we were asked 'Can I stroke your dog?' 'Yes, you can!..........That's not my dog though :D'

For your next trip AS, I suggest Richmond Park (but I'm biased as I worked there for a while ). Isabella in early May for the rhodos and azaleas should not be missed!

That was my thought as well, I remember going many years ago and enjoying the wilderness.

There didn't seem to be a lot of people in the park on Sunday, I expect they were all at home playing nintendo and eating pizza.
