But I don't disagree with BigPhil either. I'm just pointing out that cycles + cars is at least as potentially dangerous for cyclists as pedestrians + cycles is for pedestrians.Sorry, I'm sort of with BigPhil here. The reason why often cycles and cars don't mix is because cyclists are hardly given any sort of priority, or even the rights they have according to the code. And resultantly, it's no wonder why some cyclists start breaking rules. Not that I'm excusing those cyclists who break rules which put other road users out or at danger, referred to at the bottom of this post.
There is one and only one reason that I don't cycle the 6 miles to the train station every morning. It's because I am an inexperienced and uncertain cyclist and I would be cycling on 60mph bendy country roads and doing so for more than about 100m terrifies me. If there was a series of cycle paths, I'd cycle it quite happily.
