It bothers me more how he managed to get in the country if it turns out he wasn't born in Britain and, like one of the others arrested today, was recently granted citizenship of Britain.

If he had no criminal record and no known connection with terrorists why should he have been stopped from coming into the country?

The immigration service recently re-introduced passport checks on those leaving the country via Heathrow but they are fairly cursory, their PCs weren't even booted up fully. Just a glance at the passport and no scanning like on entry, then again I'm as white as milk.

Last I checked (2½ years ago) Associated, which owns the Mail, owned 20% of ITN and ITV (Carlton/Granada) 40%. Not sure what their holding in ITV is.

I doubt that would stand up in court though, would it? (For instance, even disregarding the point that prior to a trial nobody can be said to have done it, you don't know for sure that the chap in the CCTV picture actually did anything.)

No. I'm sure you're quite right.

I'm just suggesting that so far this looks OK, after the Stockwell business I'm certainly not going to blindly assume they got it right until that is proven.
